  • Can I just say that the forum looks even worse and is so hard to look at now, I just don't understand why you are trying to mess with a well run forum. I can only agree with everything that has already said, please put it back to how it was with the date as part of the title!!!!

allow me to make it a bit easier for them then :D

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is remove the blocking filter that forced the removal of E: ??/??
[everything and everyONE goes back to the way it was a day ago - happy]
concentrate all your efforts on making the date field box a compulsory field, thus ensuring the end date button works for all posts
oh & remove the 'unknown date' tickbox

the above should take a lot less time than all the tweaks you are making or are going to try and make to address everyones concerns

ETA - i see one of the tweaks is putting the data from the date field box into the title at the beginning, well if thats gonna happen, you might as well let us have E: ??/?? back again as it takes up less room !

    i'll say it again
"remove the blocking filter and make the date box compulsory"
one line and two actions - simples innit ;)

Come on MSE look at this post it says it all!!!

  • Just in case the powers that be are taking notice I just want to add that I prefer it as it was. I'm finding it very difficult to look at and it's hard to see what the competitions are.

I used to be on a forum (Handbag) that detroyed itself by constant 'improvements' that made it impossible to use. I hope this doesn't go the same way.

Instead of wasting "tech" time tinkering around to get something that works a little closer to the old system just drop the changes.

As far as I can see the only user advantage is that when you sort by the new system it will show say 05/02, 06/02, 07/02 etc while the old system would show 05/02 then 05/03 etc before 06/02 and so on, a small and almost pointless change more so when set against the loss of an enddate in the actual title (not just on the same line) and the loss of the ability to search by enddate. Also in 99% of cases showing the year is just a waste of space and adds more clutter.

still hating it. seriously just unblock the old format! having the word Ends is also pointless - stop wasting your time

A few of the most prolific comp posters, myself included, had been adding all comp threads as "unknown date" as it seemed not to be a viable system.

I wonder if "we" all agreed to use the MSE auto date format to enable its functionality MSE admin would meet us halfway & let the old title date format be reinstated.

By a few posters agreeing to this a large percentage of posts would be covered.

Maybe I'm just seeing it a bit too simplistic as surely we can run both systems together?

There really does seem to be no good reason why both systems can't operate together. Indeed, that really would be a helpful improvement. If there is a reason for blocking end dates in the title other than to force the adoption of the new system (in which case it is not achieving its objective anyway) please could someone from MSE explain what it us as that might clear a lot of things up.
