Competitions Time End Dates

MSE Andrea's replies say it all. With 100s of posts all saying we don't want this change she completely ignores them and responds only to the few posts raising technical issues. In other words whether you want it or not MSE are going to ram this change down your throat. If, as Andrea claims, MSE are responding to what people are asking for, it is clear people are asking for the censorship to be removed and to be able to use the established end date format, so why not respond to that?!!!

Unfortunately it appears we are looking at the ego of one or two MSE developers, trying to show how clever they are, taking precedence over the hundreds of users of this forum. Over years people have established working practices to help them to post, enter and track hundreds of competition entries every week based on a well established posting format. This has been destroyed in an instant for the sake of overzealous developers who not only think they can do things better but that they should be allowed to force everyone to do things their way, and only their way.

At first I assumed the way this drastic change has been implemented was due to the limitations of the forum but this censorship issue demonstrates that it would have been possible to keep the original format, scan the title to extract the end date, then use this as the basis of a sort by end date function.

If MSE actually did have "clever" developers this could all have been done without any visible changes to the forum and with no impact whatsoever on users of the forum.

just tried posting another with the new end date and it wouldn't allow me ???? So just put CD in the top line and selected unknown from the new bit??????

i had to take the end date off at the beginning of the thread title to finally get it to go through, how confusing!

Our techies are working hard on several points you all made, which we gave them in order of priority based on what the most of you seemed to be asking for.

Getting it in the title is the first and I think (hope) they'll go for a well deserved lunch now

It's still not really 'in the title' though, it's before it.

Apart from visually, which does look much improved, it really doesn't make any difference to the functionality of it.

Seeing that search takes 15 - 30 minutes to update, lets see in a bit if its still missing - if it is BIG PROBLEM STILL!

I see unknown is still there too, that really needs changing MSE!

I could be totally wrong here, but I think the search button looks at a slightly older version of the data. Try the search a bit later when its had a chance to refresh, and this may be sorted nicely. Hope so anyway.

Wish they'd insert the date into the title so when you open it in tabs you can still see the date. Its useless without it

allow me to make it a bit easier for them then

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO is remove the blocking filter that forced the removal of E: ??/??
[everything and everyONE goes back to the way it was a day ago - happy]
concentrate all your efforts on making the date field box a compulsory field, thus ensuring the end date button works for all posts
oh & remove the 'unknown date' tickbox

the above should take a lot less time than all the tweaks you are making or are going to try and make to address everyones concerns

ETA - i see one of the tweaks is putting the data from the date field box into the title at the beginning, well if thats gonna happen, you might as well let us have E: ??/?? back again as it takes up less room !
