TECHNICAL PROBLEM - Editing old post titles
If you try and edit a title of a post from before the "blocking" of E: DD/MM started you hit this problem. If the title is left with E: DD/MM in, then any change you make affects the post title but leaves the thread title (forumdisplay) unchanged.
example:
Original Title: E: 28/02 Win a holiday to France
Edited to E: 28/02 Win a holiday to Germany
In the forum list and in searches it will show France but when you open the thread it will show Germany
(I just want to make clear this is different to the problem with posts over two months old which has always happened. This problem affects threads posted as recently as yesterday)MSE_Andrea wrote: »Hi One-Eye
Could you check this is still happening for the post you saw it on please?
Thanks
Yes it is still happening - example just edited is https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4416413
Title is now E: 11/02 Win Continuum Season One on DVD (x4)
On forum view and Search results it remains as E: 11/02 Win Continuum Season 1 on DVD (x4)
- see the first thread if you search continuum (and search results are still not showing any end dates)0 -
It would work if they just allowed us to post the end date in the title again. Not sure why they disabled that tbh.
Going to other comps forums is good in theory, but, as most people I assume, I only keep check of the comps I enter by the thanks button. So I would be lost.
I can understand people have asked to change certain things but surely it should be a majority vote not just a few?Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

Thanks One-Eye
Is that a different post to the one you mentioned before though?
I'm not a techie but I'll try to answer this as the techies are working on the points you've raised so I don't want to disturb them...
Sometimes changes to titles don't update as quickly on forum and main board display level as they do on the thread level - the site takes a while to update.
Is it possible this is what's happened here?
If you could check the post you referred to before to let me know if that change has updated or not, then this may be what's happening.
Hopefully I've understood your point! Let me know if notCould you do with a Money Makeover?

I forgot to say earlier.. the reason we only put this on the Comps Board was because Compers asked for it to be able to see what's closing that day and enter quickly. There are so many comps ending each day we thought it was a great idea, there isn't really such an urgency for it on Freebies like there is here.Could you do with a Money Makeover?

But we already had a system that did that before, with the end date in the title and the title sort method?
It worked very well, when people used it properly! (Sorted and not searched!)0 -
we didnt ask for the main title to be completely banned from using an end date aswell though did we-noone wanted thatWhat goes around-comes around0

I agree. It worked brilliantly - and if the problem is that new compers don't understand then a good read of the comping guide would put them straight quickly. When I first joined I I got the hang of it very quickly - this is purely down to the fact that I read the comping guide before I did anything.
Who exactly asked for this change?
Removing the ability to post E: is making comping very, very difficult. I don't think it's being replaced with something that's better I'm afraid. There are hundreds of comps missing using this method which is just not good enough.
If people prefer this then why are there so many complaints? This is on page 11. There's 6 pages of people opposed to the new move - obviously something needs to be done.
I definitely think that allowing E: in the title is the way forward, and once the system is usable & all problems ironed out THEN try moving us over.xx JoJo xx

I didn't comment on the discussion post about the end dates because I didn't think it would affect me at all. I thought you were introducing an end date box for end date compers as an extra facility, which wouldn't impact me. Had I had the slightest idea that you would be banning the use of end dates in the titles, then I would have commented - loudly - in the discussion thread.Al Mac Appreciation Society (AMAS) member # 6½

A few people asked for it. But the rest of us didn't realise you intended to !!!!!! up the way it worked, for the rest of us.
I tried to use it last night, as enter by end date, no easier than it was before.
Sorry it's a pointless change.0 -
Hi Andrea, thank you for braving the wolves and appearing here.
Please may I try to explain something. If we do a search for a particular competition, in my illustration its for all ITV comps, at the moment they will come up showing the E: xx/xx date and we can easily see if we have time to leave them and come back to them or if they need dealing with soon. If you take out the naming convention then they will just read, for example, Win £10,000 with The Chase, the forum implemented end date does not show in this view. This is just one of the many reasons why we all wish to be able to keep the naming convention we already have but use it alongside the new method. That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free0
