Is it just me or are these "changes" coming in because so many "newbies" have complained that finding their way around the forums is too hard to grasp? I have seen lots of comments on threads asking how to sort end dates, people asking on Facebook & twitter how to do it - makes me think this has all been done to try and attract more to the forums.

TBH, I haven't attempted to look at the forum since this afternoon. Will be tackling it after the kids have eaten, but I'm not liking the thought :(

I hope it's easier otherwise I don't see the end of this argument.

I completely agree I think this is the major driving reason and am not at all happy about it. If I wanted a site like Loquax etc I would join one.

I'm not an end-date comper but always hated how when I searched ie E: 31/01 it would only come up with 12 pages. If this stays as it is I would prefer the newest listed for date ie E: 31/01 being posted on first page (so in reverse of what it is now) as you would still have to find the last of the E: 31/01 to find the latest posted, so potentially still missing some.

I haven't posted any comps up yet this afternoon so presume I will encounter problems, but the main question I have is WHERE DO THE UNKNOWN DATE COMPS GO (as I don't know and am sure we're all missing loads of unknown date ones)

Hopefully things will calm down when we get our heads round the changes, and techies have finished implementing any changes (let's hope anyway :rotfl:), but for now it's CARRY ON COMPING :j

  • Seeing as admin don't actually use the comps boards but compers do - wouldn't it have been polite to ask us for our opinions first?

When there were the changes to the regulars boards, we were allowed to have a long discussion and come to an agreement about what suited best. Now it's just a case of "if you don't like it, sod off".

I agree with this, I'm not sure if it's just the newbies though, I've seen lots of people newbies and 'oldies' alike say that they 'searched' for an end date rather than 'sorted' the forum into order.

If they actually did mean that they searched rather than sorted then changing to sorting would have a made a huge difference with the useability of the board before.

The new end date is now editable, so I did a search of my posts so that I could insert dates where these were missing. Unfortunately, this new date does not show up in the search results.
Once all threads have the new date, then I can't see why anyone would object to it. If you don't comp by end date, then nothings changed. You can still sort by latest posted using existing facilities. If you do comp by end date, then the board is easily sorted into end date order using the new button. BUT, clearly, there will be big problems until ALL threads include the new date.
However, as all threads do (and always did) NEED a date for the board to work properly, the "Not Known" option needs to be removed. If a date is not known, a guessed one should be entered and "guessedenddate" included in the body of the post.
Also, the new date could be made more instantly noticeable by using a bold font or colouring it.
With these amendments, the old date isn't needed and I would suggest nor is the word "Win" that starts all titles.
I don't know how the BG's search/sort the board when moving old threads to GO and would certainly hope that this doesn't give any problems in that respect but would hope that the inclusion of the year in the date would actually make this easier.

It is referring to the Additional Fields box right at the bottom, under the Post Icons box, where you must enter the End Date.
