Real-life MMD: I got £400 for finding someone a job, should I give them half?

Keep it. She will be getting £300 everymonth0

Tell her at the earliest opportunity that the bonus is for the referrer, not the new employee. Manage her expectations.
If she objects/argues, use the 'third party' negotiating technique. Tell her that you're fairly sure that the one-off sum is for the referrer only, but as she seems to think differently we can 'check together with HR'. When she doesn't get the answer she wants, HR takes the hit (..which is only fair, as it's their scheme, inadequately explained by them, that caused the problem in the first place.)0 -
she is 3600£ p.a. better..you gave her a service (by referring her} and she got the reward for your service {300£ pm}, your service charge {400£} should be yours...
is she asking the same question "Should i share 50% of my salary hike with you"0 -
I find it incredible that some people can be so mean - saying they are just sticking to the rules... (Jobsworths !).
If :
1) your friend really is your friend and
2) you want to keep your friend and
3) you want a friend at work as well as
4) a friend outside of it and
5) you want a good (and even sweet) working environment
... then share the good fortune both of you have been given with a good heart .
Celebrate , be good , enjoy . The alternative is just not worth it .0 -
Its yours keep it
Simple
Your friend is rather ungrateful
She should thank herself lucky you got her the job
I think thats a pure cheek and indeed if she expects you to give half the money then she is indeed no friend...So nothing lost just £400 gained
Always find out who your real friends are when money is involved in my experience so you are better off without "non-friends" or shall we just call them acquantainces.
Tell her to "do one" in no uncertain terms what a greedy !!!!er!!!0 -
I referred a friend for a job and got £500. I reckoned this was for me and not to split, but I did buy the friend a present out of the money.'Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.' George Carlin0

As already said by others, if you had already suggested or gave the impression that you would split the money then that is what you should do. The friend has surely not taken the job just to get half of the £400 you will be paid - one hopes the job was taken with the longer term benefits in mind as well as the additional £300 per month which seems like reason enough the take the job. Most companies that offer this 'bonus' only pay it after a period of several months has elapsed, so watch out that if you agree to split the bonus, that you pay in advance, the friend then leaves and you are out of pocket as the company does not pay you as the friend left before the end of the qualification period..0

Wait what?! Your friend is 300 quids in each month thanks to you, and wants a piece of YOUR bonus? Your bonus is for you, from the company, as thanks for being a really good and very cheap headhunter for them. Will she give you half of her extra 300 quid a month as well - monthly, since her "bonus" is recurring? That's what I thought.
Unless of course you two are married (poster's gender and relationship to the 'friend' is unspecified), which would justify the use of "our".0 -
Your cash unless you promised to split.
Also, check the rules. There may be specific prohibitions in sharing the referral fee.0
