The current stamp duty tiers penalise ordinary families living in expensive areas. Regionalise the tiers so that people in cheap areas actually pay stamp duty, and get the housing market moving again in expensive areas by cutting the rate. No family should have to pay above 1% duty on a basic 3 bedroom house.
Under the present system it's virtually impossible to sell a house in the £250K-£275K bracket. This ridiculous tax needs smoothing out.0 -
Charge those under alchohol abuse for A & E care.
Where do we draw the line?
Perhaps we should charge the mean-spirited, because, reading through the posts so far, there certainly appear to be more of them, so it would raise more money.
By the way, there is a strong genetic component to addiction and even to other, so called, lifestyle choices. Over 40 genes have been linked with obesity, for example.
Choice is only one factor in so many of the situations for which many on this site feel people should be penalised. Nature and nurture also play a major role.0 -

We own big stakes in RBS, LLoyds yet we do not force them to set a certain % of their loans/investments within the UK. They are free to invest OUR deposits abroad and gamble it on the markets. This does not benefit the real economy in the UK.

Renewal quotes for insurance products should be similar to newly obtained quotes (assuming circumstances are the same) - one set of personal circumstances should equal one premium. Renewals for car insurance are often hugely more expensive than new quotes obtained from same insurer shortly after receiving the renewal quote.0

Often, it's only once you've ordered and received tracking details that you find your parcel is entrusted to the dreaded Yodel or Hermes. Declare who it'll be up front so we can go to a site that uses a better courier!0

Why do prisoners have their own tvs? Why do they get a choice of meals? Why do they get pocket money to buy luxury items?
They were sent to jail because they were found guilty of a crime. The idea of jail is supposed to be that it is such a terrible experience that they never commit a crime again. How many repeat offenders are there in the UK? Stop wasting my tax money on them having sky tv!0
