Yes but when even the phoneline seems to be giving people different answers, then what do you do?

I am sure we could all call the 0500 number and get a different person who may have a slightly different answer to our questions about this.

As far as I am aware the Asda company policy is to accept the coupons from any supermarket as long as they actually stock the product that is offered on the coupon. You do not need to actually buy that product as long as the store stocks it. This being the case they will not accept coupons for another stores products - e.g. 20p off Tesco Value Mince cannot be used in Asda.

Now an individual Asda store may have their own policy to only accept coupons from specific stores but I think it is best to ask at customer services to clarify the position with the store you use.

When a company offers to accept coupons I do not see anything wrong with taking them up on this offer. If they offer a BOGOF I would always take them up on it and this is just the same IMHO.

If at some point the policy changes and they stop accepting these coupons then so be it - I will stop using them.

I might sound a bit stupid here but surely there is a limit to what ASDA will accept, if your shop only comes to say £14 and you stand there with £13.50 worth of vouchers and a smile won't they be a bit funny with you ?

If they can redeem the coupons then there is no reason they should get funny, it is all the same to them. The question is what will they take and why do people seem to get different answers from the customer helpline!

As a rule I would not try to get the majority of my shopping for nothing by using coupons (it just doesn't seem right somehow) but in the interests of MSE I have been to my local Asda with a set of Somerfield coupons to see what they would take.

I bought £13.64 worth of goods - none of them products on the coupons and handed over £11 worth of £1 and £50 Somerfield coupons.

The checkout operator scanned all the coupons and scored them out with a pen then smiled and said "£2.64 please".

Don't know if this helps anyone else but I found it very rewarding !!!

Right, I am really annoyed that my Asda wont do this and that the phoneline people say no, but then it works for others - I am going to go and get a bottle of whisky* and kick up a fuss in Asda this saturday!

*I mean buy the whisky, not drink one before I go!

Well finally tried it yesterday and hedged my bets, i live near two asdas so decided totry the megastore type first.

Bought £12.79 worth of shopping and the woman got really funny with me and called the customer service rep over, she also went a bright crimson colour as though she was embarrassed by something, she would then only take 10% of the total shop, i think asda have been reading this and decided to change their policy.

Not being too disheartened i tried my local asda, which in all honesty, is not the best and in need of a refurb, but, i knew one of the women in there and asked her what their policy was, she then informed me that they had been told toonly take 10% of the total shop (new directive) in saying that, unfortunatley i had left my card in the car after the first disgruntled trip and only had £10 cash and £8 in vouchers on me, the girl again looked embarrased and said its ok i'll take them. I only gave £6 of them but got that off a £15 shop.

Not a bad day saved £7.20 but i did feel quite strange and really not that comfortable by the whole situation, thinki'lljust stick to the 10% in future,

    Good luck all.

    Beastoid -

I would like to see what your Asdas would do if you bought a bottle of wine such as 35 South Cabernet Sauvignon which there is a Sommerfield £1 off coupon for. According to the above 10% rule the wine would have to cost £10 per bottle before they would give you the £1 off - I don't think this rule could be upheld in such a case. Not that I am suggesting that you use the coupons for the products on the coupon - that is just an example to show how the 10% rule can not really be enforced.

Previously someone has mentioned that different stores have different rules but I have found that even different checkout operators in the same store will try to enforce different rules.

I have had another sucessful trip to Asda this morning to get price matched products such as the Safeway/Morrisons 6 pack of Coke (any variety) £2.19 BOGOFF and as this is on offer at Asda £2.19 each or 2 for £3 they also took off the Asda offer of £1.38 so that meant 12 cans of Coke for 81p !!! With all my other deals and some coupons I am once again very happy with my lot !!!

Just been into Somerfield and picked up the MAy copy of the magazine and there are as mentioned elsewhere over £7.00 of coupons in it that are valid until nearly the end of May.

There are some low value ones and a few 50p and £1 so if I pick up another few copies of this I should be able to get cheap shopping right up to May.

    Happy happy days.
