I'm just wondering what CSL are like to deal with as a company.
This evening I met my wife after work to buy a sofa that she liked from CSL. We paid over £400.00 deposit and we walked away ticking another to do off our list.
On arriving home I began to open my mail and discovered a letter informing me that my job as been put at risk and I'm under a 30 day consultation and therefore at risk of being made redundant.
Apart from complete shock it dawned on me that I have just committed to settling the remainder of the balance on this sofa in 4 weeks time.
I dont think I have any legal right to cancel but I'm wondering whether CSL are the sort of company that will do the right thing.
I order the sofa at 7.30pm on the 28/01/12 and will be cancelling at 9.00am on the 29/01/12.
Any help will be appreciated.

No cancellations, I think I'm going to be relying on good will here. The questions is do CSL have that?0

A post from a realist for once. :T
If I were you Richard I would go in to the store with your letter and calmly ask them to help out, you just never know. Bang on about "rights" and they will probably play hard ball.
Softly softly to start with.
If they won't play ball, we will then fall in to our usual argument (on here) about deposits and what is allowed and what is deemed a penalty0 -
Was the sofa to be customised in any way? Or was it "off the shelf" or "made to order"?
I think this is when we get into our "discussion".

Thanks for the response. The sofa was cancelled less than 12 hours after the purchase and the order has not left the show room.
The problem is the contract, it says no cancellations and this is where the problem is.
I'm simply going to end up £415.00 out of PocKET.
SHOULD HAVE CHECKED THE TERMS.0 -
CSL are THE WORST Company that I have ever dealt with, they ride roughshod over any complaints, and treat you very badly.
Only when I started a County Court Summons, did I get my money back, it took over a year.
Caveat emptor in the case of csl0 -
In the defence of CSL, you were going back to ask for a refund on the off chance, or to receive goodwill. It's not fair to now brand them as legal thieves.
Sadly, it's written in to the T&Cs that you cannot cancel, and you were happy with that when you signed for the sofa. It's sad and unfortunate circumstances, but there's no point in a no cancellations term if you plan to hand goodwill refunds out every time some one asks.0 -
I'll take it all back I went into see the manager and he has agreed to refund the entire amount. CSL have redeemed themselves fully and I can now pay my mortgage for another month.
I will say the mangager was fully professional and very honest.

I know you never think of the worst case scenario when you buy anything like this. Losing my job could not have come at a worse time, wife pregnant with one week to go. It's been a nightmare week for me.
Anyway CSL have agreed to refund which I fully appreciate is a lot more than they had to do. It has given me another months grace on the mortgage which I hope will give me time to find another job.
After paying down all my debts last night it has left me almost broke which is why I was so worried about this deposit.
These are truly tough times and I can only hope that I manage to keep a roof o er my head.0 -
