So are you telling me Monopoly's "Bank error in your favour, collect £200" isn't realistic? ;-)

I thought that when you send a transfer via online banking you have to provide the full name and surname. Obviously if you mistype a number it's not your fault but the bank should not go ahead with the transfer if the name does not match. Am i wrong ?
    Yes, you are wrong.

The paying bank cannot check the bank account details of another bank's customer - that would not work for privacy reasons etc. etc.

All they do is pay it to the sort code and account number you quote. They do QUOTE the name you give, and the receiving bank MIGHT think it was odd if it didn't match, but in reality they won't ever check.

Bear in mind that you might quote "Mr Stephen Jones" in any form like:

    "Mr S Jones"
    "S Jones"
    "Mr Stephen Jones"
    "Mr Steven Jones"
    "Mr Steve Jones"
    "Stephen Jones"
    "Steve Jones"
    "Steve & Linda Jones"

    etc
    etc
    etc.

Would you really want them all to be bounced unless the name matched exactly, or expect some human being to examine each receipt to check the names seem credibly similar?
