It cannot be right (Sun £9.50 train vouchers)

Because their readers won't know the codes have gone when they buy the paper,
Serious!?
A promotion aims to increase sales.
If some people would buy the paper find out they don'y have to they won't buy the paper.
Therefore they will be a net increase in sales but it will be depressed to what it could have been.0 -
Just sent this to customer services at the Sun.
Re Save £9.50 on Train Tickets
I hope you do realise that the codes we hacked for this which means the majority of codes went to non sun readers rather than sun readers.
Indeed some of the people who have got the codes have got this attitude towards the sun and sun readers.
"Calling the Sun a newspaper is rather like calling beans on toast a gourmet meal. (not that there is anything wrong with beans on toast, but you get my drift) or maybe not if you read the sun
It's a putrid rag 'read' by morons with the collective IQ of a fly. and i wouldn't have it anywhere near me or mine.
I have done many sun holidays, but i would never buy the 'paper' to do it. They simply send me a code and i book online.
I simply wouldn't soil my hands by actually buying it"

Can you please explain to me what you will do to ensure that all future offers go to sun readers rather than people like this?0 -

why would the Sun have 'never' options in their questionnaire on Sun purchasing habits,if they didn't expect people to be applying that didn't buy the Sun0 -

You are assuming without any evidence whatsoever that the people who make disparaging remarks about the Sun are the same people that have got the vouchers without buying the codes.
What about the Sun readers who got the vouchers in advance by using the codes?

A quick reply
"Thanks for your email regarding our £9.50 Red Spotted Hanky Rail Offer, I am sorry to hear of your complaint.
It came to our attention late Sunday evening that our third code word had been guessed, and shared on the Money Saving Expert website. This meant that a small amount of Customers were able to redeem codes early. This is very disappointing, and not in the spirit of the promotion.
This added to anticipated Reader participation meant our 30,000 £9.50 credits sold out very quickly. (As mentioned, this offer is subject to availability.)
As it's never our intention to disappoint our readers, we released another batch of 9,000 codes on Monday morning.
Unfortunately, these have now also sold out. Apologies again for any disappointment caused.
Moving forwards we are taking steps to stop this happening again"0 -

Dave
No I am not.
I would expect that the people who got the codes before Monday were a mixture of Sun and non Sun readers.
And I would expect that a few of the non Sun readers are people like the one who posted so rudely about the Sun and it's readers.
This offer should be for sun readers and I'm glad the Sun are doing something about it.0 -
why would the Sun have 'never' options in their questionnaire on Sun purchasing habits,if they didn't expect people to be applying that didn't buy the Sun
I think the question is "how often do you normally buy the sun".
They capture the data so they can see whether the offer makes people who don't normally buy the Sun buy it and whether it makes existing readers buy it more often.
I would suspect that the original 30k codes didn't cost the sun anything (I would suspect that RSH footed the bill for them) but the additional 9k did.
They therefore want to see whether their spend has been worth it.
And because of the abuse, I suspect that may think twice about doing it again.0 -

I bet the bright spark at The Sun who thought up the code word that was so easily guessed is getting some stick.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

See The Sun still isn't admitted they totally screwed up - codes could be issued more than once, no limit to how many codes per account hardwired in, script vulnerable, code word could be guessed, site was live before Monday etc. etc.
Unfortunately people sharing codes is always the problem with promos that only use code words and similar. That's why so many comp organisers don't like MSE.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0
