It's not uncommon to have 6 or more running in XP.

Hi - the Microsoft anti-spyware programme has a running processes tool and a start up programme one, which gives basic info about each process and allows you to stop any you don want.0

I find winpatrol (www.winpatrol.com) is a good little program to run. I have that and Spybot-SD running in my task box. Between them, they tell you what is running and what will run at startup.
More importantly they track changes to lots of key areas such as startup programs, Activex controls, Internet start page and Scheduled tasks and ask if you want these changes to happenJumbo
