Been lurking here for many years now and finally decided to post having seen Jo1972 re appear. Well its a new year so time for another attempt at a new relationship with alcohol. I am annoyed because last summer i read an amazing book about drinking and once I'd finished the book I said hey I dont need a drink anymore and for 8 weeks didnt miss it think about it and definately didnt want any. Then one saturday night I thought oh why not have one for a change (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and promptly started all over again. The book was quite clear that it would only work once so I am going to try it again and see if it does.

My habit is 8 pints a night on SN and then at weekends rises to 12/16 per night. This is just habit and needs to be sorted. I want to be able to have 8 on a Saturday but none during the week. Had the lecture from Doctor re. Type II diabetes six months ago and going again tomorrow to see how thats progessing. Not at all I fear.

    Well be gentle

    Morning everyone,

Wow - this forum has been so busy over the weekend  - welcome to all the newbies.

Congrats to all those that have managed to stay AF and hugs to anyone that needs them.

365days - I will be thinking of you this week and praying that all goes well for you - did you say it was Thursday you are going in?

No AFD's to report over the weekend but today is the start of a new week ;).

Have a great day all :)

The analogy I love is from John Coates book.
He retells the story of King Canute. Who, however much willpower he used, could not stop the tide.

I'm not here to tell anyone that they are addicted or not. All I can say is that I am addicted to alcohol. I know that using willpower alone will not stop the tide of any addiction for anyone. In that respect I am wiser than King Canute.

Sorry to be pedantic but I believe you and Canute are in the same boat! IIRC he knew that he couldn't turn back the tide and was trying to demonstrate to the masses that not even the power of Kings was able to do that.

Definitely going to be my first day back today so I'm calling it!

    1 AFD please Shaggy.

Good morning everyone and welcome those who have posted for the first time over the weekend!! :j

Well done to all those who used other methods to stay AF and to those who didnt quite make it but still logged in to share and continue with their AFs :T You are my inspiration...thank you

Without this thread I would not have been able to meet another 2 AFs. (I can't quite believe I did it!!) Although I didnt get an opportunity to log in I knew you lot were about so that was enough to keep me going. :) This weekend has been very difficult on several levels, personal as well as suffering alcohol withdrawal :( but I got through and although the form isnt great - Im certainly thinking a lot clearer and able to rationalise things better and am able to concentrate fully in work :j

Shaggy can I please declare 5/31
