3/20 tonight, even though there are open bottles of wine in the house!
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Wine night here but not enjoying it. Wish I had gone and watched TV in bed instead.

Dare I think I may have turned a corner?

ETA - my usual would be to carry on until at least midnight, probably later and then hit the sack but I really CBA so I am going to bed. Who knows if I have turned a corner but it is progress :)

    Well it can happen! :rotfl:

But for the first time tonight, I also felt a bit of a corner turned, went out for a meal at the local cheap carvery where alcohol is also cheap.
Normally I would have been downing a couple of glasses, but tonight I really felt like I didn't want to, I had things to discuss with my OH and wanted to do that rather than drink and turn another evening to fog.
Poor OH, we had to make some difficult important decisions, he'll certainly prefer me drinking! :)

    Shaggy am now 9/30 AF

I'm 32. That's a rather "sobering" (for want of a better word) account. Fortunately, I have not been prone to going on 3 /4 day benders, just drinking a bit too much all the time (which I'm sure is not good either).

I didn't go on big 3/4 day benders and sometimes COULD stop after a couple of drinks.
However, even if I wasn't drinking any more at the age of 32 compared to 22, the consequences were getting worse.
The hangovers got worse, I had more responsibility so a night on the tiles was causing angst at home. The self-loathing and self-pity after a big night out was worse in my 30s compared to my 20s.

So while my alcohol intake didn't progress that much, my alcoholism was progressing over time. Eventually, my drinking would have caught up.

No-one starts their drinking going on 3/4 day benders or drinking round the clock. They build up to that, and that's why I consider alcoholism is progressive. It gets worse without treatment, never better.

VIews my own - not saying anyone else is an alcoholic, just me. :)

    Hi all - 5/21 AFDs

I'm going to a colleague's retirement do at the end of the month and I was tempted to get OH to pick me up so I could have a few drinks. I caught myself on because in my head I will have a few drinks be social and have a fabulous night with a warm fuzzy glow around me. What will actually happen is I will have a few drinks, talk crap, go home, wake up - despise and hate myself, feel humilated - all for the sake of a few drinks.

I love the support on this thread as it is a reminder and kick up the bum now and again. I did have a drink last night but only the one at home:).

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
