Hi guys, congratualtions to all the above doing so well! It really is harder this time of year.

If I am honest I almost broke yesterday and cracked open a cold one! Luckily Skintmum made a nice cup of tea and we had a couple of chocolate digestives which soon took my mind off having a drink!

Anyway it's 6/30 AFDs. for me!

I've got an important competition final to attend in London tomorrow, depending on how it goes I will use all my will power not to commiserate or celebrate with a short one.

    Wish me luck!

I'll second that, far too many excuses this time of year.

Wish my wife was so accommodating. :rotfl:

Good luck with your competition. :)

Good luck for tomorrow SkintDad - enjoy the day and let's hope it is a celebration at the end of the day (in whatever form that takes) ;)

I did have a drink last night but only a small amount - we had an Indian takeaway so I had half of lager & one 175ml glass of wine. I have decided that even though I don't have as many AFD's as some of you on this thread I am happy with the fact that I have cut down the amount I have on evenings when I do drink :)

We can't all have the same targets. Some people like 365days aunt who never drank, can never drink. I may be the same, I don't know yet. But even if someone only aims for 1 AF day of 30 where that was unheard of before, it's progress.
We are all different in our drinking and we are all at different stages. Sometimes we have to be less harsh on ourselves with our aims.
I for one have spent many years getting the stage I am with drinking - I can't possibly reverse it overnight!

As for just having a glass of wine and half a lager with a takeaway and stopping, that would be amazing for me and I really admire you.

Exactly this. There are people here who want to cut down for many reasons. If they find they can and that the cutting down doesn't mess with their head, that is absolutely fantastic. They will save money, save calories and maybe feel a bit healthier and fitter. These people are in control of their drinking.

There are others who by trying to cut down find that it is REALLY HARD, if not impossible to cut back as they would wish. These people are not in control of their drinking.

Hopefully no one here tells anyone what they should or should not be doing. Everyone shares their own experience and decides wether it fits their own circumstances or not. And everyone can respect everyone elses. Even though I no longer drink I find posting here helps ME, maybe when I'm feeling slightly wobbly. If my posts strike a chord with anyone or annoy anyone that is down to them not me. For the first time since I stopped drinking I am starting a relationship with someone, that is giving me lots to think about. So I maybe around a bit more!!

For me stopping drinking isn't always easy but it is far easier than drinking.

    What she said skintdad.:)

sukey, you're quite right that there are more ways of cutting down that counting AF days and like Karen said we're all different. Some people count units as well as days. Personally, I know I'm better off having none on some days with the rider that I now know I won't go mad on the 'drinking' days either.

Hope you have a good day too Alex.

I am so glad I joined this thread - which was thanks to maman who recommended it from another thread we use :T you are such a lovely helpful bunch of people. I realise that all our experiences with alcohol are different and I guess I can count myself as being one of the lucky ones who can just stop after a couple of drinks ;).

For those that want to cut down (or cut out) and are struggling I do hope you succeed but like Karen says 'Sometimes we have to be less harsh on ourselves with our aims'.

365days - I admire your sobriety and your posts are always welcome - I do hope your new relationship goes well.

Have a great weekend everyone :)

I second that :T I count AFDs and units (I'm another one who puts them on a spreadsheet!!) Although my AFD total is usually quite good, units on non-AFD's are not great, but I am keeping them in control  Otherwise the age 55 hangovers are hideous
