The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 12

Just wanted to add a comment to the nature/nurture/alcoholism debate: my DD1 is completely teetotal. She gave it a try as a teenager, didn't like the taste and now saves a fortune!:) I think perhaps you can make a decision that goes right against the way you were brought up. For example, my MIL was what you might call disorganised on the domestic front. Result, that my DH and a number of his siblings are incredibly houseproud. So it can go either way.
Next, something strange to be posting on a thread like this. I bought rather a lot of wine in Sainsbury's this morning. One of my favourites was on offer plus they had the 25% off 6 bottles deal that comes around every now and again. The reason I'm posting this is that it's not something I could have done before cutting down. I was dangerous around a wine box as I never knew when to stop. Now I know that just because I've got loads in the house, I won't drink it any more quickly than if I bought one at a time.
Result!!:A
On the first bit I think you're right - two of my family have a 'wee issue' with alcohol whilst two of my other siblings don't.
On the second - well done!
I couldn't have before but I'm finding a bit more tolerance to the singing wine bottle in the cupboard these days.:TTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Hello, I am hoping I can join you. I came across this thread by accident and have been lurking for a couple of days. Now I have joined MSE so I can be part of what is clearly a very supportive community.
I don't know whether I am an alcoholic but I certainly drink far too much every day. My husband is an alcoholic and doesn't want to stop drinking; I do, or at least drastically cut down.0 -
Welcome to Newstart :hello:
I am having a sober Saturday! Please mark me up for another day, Shaggy. 13/15
I am definitely going to hit my target this month :j0 -

Welcome and what an apt username! It'll be tough for your if your DH is carrying on drinking, but who knows when he sees what you can achieve he might join in a bit. There are 6 days left of this month. Why not try a few AF days and get in the habit ready for November?
fruball, I'm impressed, calling AF early and on a Saturday. Well done you!:T0 -
Thank you for the welcome. I was going to start in November but you're right Maman there are 6 days left in October (5 potential AF days since I have already had a drink
). I would like to try for 2 AF days in October and hope to do a lot better in November.
The situation with my husband will make it more difficult but we aren't joined at the hip; just because he is having a glass of wine doesn't mean I have to. The problem is that he just pours me a glass when he starts drinking on the (previously correct)assumption that I will want one. The first thing I must do is to ask to ask me before pouring me a glass.
This is a bit scary!0 -
Tried some Eisberg alcohol free red wine with our dinner - not bad but probably wont bother again and will have lime and soda or something... have an Eisberg white for tomorrow... will report back!
That's 8/10 for me please Shaggy! thanks and have a good night all!!Sick and tired of waking up sick and tired...

Crossed this Thread by chance, when tracing sad news concerning someone well-known and admired on mse.
I was v.late to alcohol, didn't like it, but subsequently had 20 years with late LOML who was an alcoholic as so well-described by graeme carter, with pinpoint accuracy and perfect detail, especially in relation to 'predisposition'. OH founded an org. which continues to this day.
NewStart13 - I will think of you as you set forth, knowing that each a/f day empowers you for the next.
To all of you on this Thread, my admiration and bon courage, in memory of one who
