Morning all,
Managed an AF on Friday so that makes 3/14.
Good luck everyone for the week ahead0 -
Hi
I'm new to MSE forums only posted on buying a house so far so don't know where to post this. This is probably the wrong thread, perhaps you could direct me to the right one?
My brother has had a problem with drink since his teenage years (he's now 36) and lives in Spain (i.e. not near family). He's also had problems with drugs too but the last couple of times he's come back to the UK I thought(hoped) he was doing better. He made a conscious effort to control his drinking around my young children.
Anyway, he was back at my Mum's last weekend. He had lent a friend a lot of money (£10k), they did a runner and he was angry. He drank a lot Friday night, started drinking at 8am Saturday morning and was looking to start a fight in the pub next door. To cut the story short he succeeded, knocked a poor guy unconscious and carried on kicking him. He told my Mum only that he hit someone and returned back to Spain. We have just found out what he did and our sickened to say the least.
We've raised his drinking and drug issues with him in the past but he just gets angry and then we don't hear from him for months so we've been guilty of burying our head and not causing a fuss when he visits and now we realise how wrong this was..
My query is how can we get him help? He lives in Spain with his girlfriend (who also likes a drink) so we don't know where to start. We've heard that the poor guy who was hurt so badly doesn't want to press charges, I can't understand why he wouldn't and a prison sentence would mean that he's forced not to drink. Any ideas on what help is available in Spain? I can't believe he has done this to someone and am really worried that without help he could do it again or worse
Sorry if this in incoherent, I'm in shock!0 -

I think you have a moral obligation to tell the police, if they don't already know, that it was your brother. Other than that, there is not much you can do. He can only help himself.0 -
Evening all.
What a day yesterday. Lovely weather got jobs done, went for a nice walk, every good intention to go to niece's 21 birthday meal and not have a drink, but no it didn't happen so still only one AF day this month......not good..... not happy.......grrrrrrr etc etc.
Will be AF today as I'm tired and need an early night so I think I will call in 2 days.
Tomorrow being Tuesday is our usual night out but I will try to be good the rest of the week as we are going to Spain on Saturday for a few days and I don't want to start it of feeling Carp!!0 -
Seriously, there's a seat for you on that wagon tomorrow. It's a date remember.:)
Thanks maman, wouldn't dare stand you up :A. Might be a bit late arrivingI think you have a moral obligation to tell the police, if they don't already know, that it was your brother. Other than that, there is not much you can do. He can only help himself.
HTB, well done to Fruball, I read your post & thought omg, no idea what to say here, but yes, it's hard but don't feel you're being disloyal to your brother, in a round-about way it might be the best way to help him.
& today's... sorry it's rude but this kills me....
If you look at a woman's v*g**a under a microscope, you can really spoil the evening.

HTB - I think I have to agree with Fruball - I know it would be very difficult, but you should contact the police - in a roundabout way it may even help your brother sober up if he has to face the consequences of his drunken actions. If he doesn't face up to it now then the next time he gets out of control it may well be an even worse outcome
AF for me yesterday so that makes 4/14.0
