    Hi Everybody....

    Great to find this thread..

Had my wake up call this week... getting my debts in a workable order in order to reduce them...

The booze plays a big part of that, and unfortunately life in general.. trying for a couple of months booze free... a big ask when I drink everyday... and more than a cheeky half!!..

Heres to today.... this will be AF day 1!!!

You've done so well in such a short time slowdown. Enjoy your drink tomorrow, stop worrying. Then get back on that wagon and clock up a couple more before May.:)

Welcome Miskyn. Daily drinking can't be helping your bank balance one bit. Good idea to start now, you could have a few days in before next month starts.
  • Hi everyone, just posting to remind me 22 AF days.

Oh my that was a bit of a struggle tonight. I really really really wanted a lovely cold lager tonight. The naughty old , "Just the one won't hurt." voice kept interrupting me. Kept slapping it away until I decided to get into bed and sign on.

maman - thanks for the support. I shall do as you say and enjoy my drink tomorrow. I have allocated it as a drinking day so won't feel guilty. I know I can't give it up altogether and there are some tough times ahead but as I have now clocked up 7/8 AFDs I am really pleased.

Welcome Miskyn - I am also quite new. I signed up a week ago with a hangover and have had 1 drinking day since. I used to drink everyday too but am now trying to not drink in the week.

My OH boldly stated we should not drink mon-thurs but where is he now? At a thai restaurant and not with a glass of water I can bet. Don't blame him though he has had a stressful time recently and is sticking to two pints (he says!)

Anyway time to sleep and dream of sweet things. (and I don't mean sherry!)

    Good luck
    Kind regards

    Cheers for the messages..

And i can quite happily, and safely as im in bed and NOT getting up till morning, I am 1 AFD!!!

I forgot to mention... the one thing that makes it a teeeny bit tricky, is the fact i live over the bloody pub!!!..

How annoying is that... i can hear the booze fuelled jukebox antics from here...

It wont beat a stubborn mind though...

That's tough Miskyn, a huge test of will power. I know that before not drinking became default for me I used to look longingly at people enjoying a drink outside wine bars on my way home. I then started focusing on the grey faced/red nosed winos that are to be seen from about 11.00 am in another bar. It helped.

    11 AFDs please Shaggy.

As I'm mostly driven to cut down by calories, the fact that I've gained 3 lbs. in the past two weeks helped me not have a s*d it night tonight. Strictly speaking it's not really the wine that's done it but it all helps.

    Morning

Managed to keep the red wine to 3/4 units last night - slept well as well and generally had a much better day. My lovely Dad's body is being released to the funeral home today - he had a post mortem as he died in his sleep (he had a very peaceful death) and it showed he died from a sudden and quick heart attack. The funeral is next Friday - all the practical stuff is going well.

Shaggy, take one day at a time, no planning as with alcohol just keep it in the day. Grief is different for everyone so just look after yourself, I feel so much for you, and the wine is making you sleep but it isn't a proper sleep but I understand why you are drinking to help you sleep. I have had quite a few bereavements recently, some close some not so close, but not my dad, if it were my dad I would probably be exactly like you. That's all I can say is even though he is no longer alive he still has your best interests at heart and so does your mum, you are still his daughter and he still loves you so don't ever think that that has changed, it is just his body that has expired, not his spirit, not his soul and not his memory. And most importantly love lasts FOREVER and is the
reason that we have children because it is a creation made from LOVE and the love we feel for our children is the most powerful ever and cannot be affected by death. You and your dad will always be close and he will never really leave your side.

Thank you so much for that beautiful post. I have copied and saved it.
