Another AF night for me taking me to 11 AF in the month of Jan so far. Clear headed in the morning is becoming a bit of a theme!!

  • I got a headache, but not a hangover. Got stressed out about driving oh's van for first time today. Even though I'm in the house now, I'm still panicking and my head is pounding.
Going out for a meal Friday night with OH, will be AF defo unless he says he'll drive, rather me drive and him drink, two of us on coke is recipe for disaster as we don't talk much normally.

Hi all, 30 AF days out of 35 for me please Shaggy :) and I would like to say how grateful I am for this thread. People are nothing but supportive and non-judgemental here which are qualities that are not always present in other threads on the forum. Thank you everyone xx
Lilith, well done on your 30 AF days out of 35. What a brilliant achievement! I agree that we are a real powerhouse of energy, fun and we laugh in the face of adversity. There is a serious side, this is real life and it is tragic what alcohol does to people's lives and the support is really tangible because we've all been touched by this whether through our own drinking or that of others. These stories are from the heart and they are real. Whether we can all relate or not doesn't matter, even if just one person can take comfort and hope from these posts it has been worthwhile.
Thankyou to the original poster, can't remember the name even though you posted it last week at beginning of part 12, without that post this would have just been in someone's head eating them up, get it down on the lappy or computer ipad whatever, don't let the demons eat you away. Once its out it can't hurt or haunt you and it becomes real as in you can see it in print, so you are not going mad, real feelings, real emotions, real people all joined together in this hopefully AF and trying to be AF community. Lots of love to all and thankyou for helping me to stay sober, I really appreciate it especially shaggydoo and mackeroo.

totally agree 41 and Lilith - this thread has lovely people on it, who are so supportive.

I am full of cold here - I really feel a bit dodgy and wish I could go to bed but got to wait up until the boys are back from scouts.
I'm AF tonight so I've got out of the blocks for this week (late but better than never)!
    Trying to keep in budget.

1 more for the SNC Mackeroo.

Made it AF by the skin of my teeth tonight and probably wouldn't have if not for this forum.

Thanks all for all your posts.

30/22 AF, and I've discovered that the new team member who sits opposite me has pledged an AF year, so there's support all around from all the lovely people here, and from a lovely new colleague.

This is the first time I've done an AF January. I've often gone AF during Lent, and found that easy - but then Sunday's aren't part of the 40 days of Lent and I would generally take advantage of them.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

I also want to say thanks for all the posters on here. Without you guys I would really struggle. It's nice to know that support is just a few taps away at times like this. It's a great vibe and much nicer than some of the other threads.
My Mum is coming for the night on Wed to pick up the cat, Sob. She's got stress related allopicia (the cat, not mother!) and needs to be an only cat in a very quiet place ie. Mum's house. Now I won't be drinking but mum and her husband always expect wine when they are here. I'm worried. I can't tell them because they will tell everyone they know and gossip endlessly (that's just the way they are, never going to change, does my head in!) but if I say I can't drink on my tablets, they are liable to sit there and drink in front of me and I can't cope with that! Any thoughts? X

Hi Jak, could you say you 'forgot' to get any wine? Perhaps only say this until they ask and then say 'Oops, really sorry I forgot'?

    Hi Jak

Why not just offer tea, coffee or juice and say you are on tablets and are in need of their support to stay off the booze until the end of the course? It is only a short term option, but the longer you are able to steer clear the stronger your resolve when temptation looms.

Do they bring the booze with them? If not, then perhaps say you haven't had a chance to go and buy any?
