I also would be interested to find out more on that topic. And what is dry and what is sober...

19 AFDs for me. Stressed all day, as DH who is depressed angered and upset me before I was even properly awake. Actually, I think it started yesterday when he wrote something alarming-sounding that was actually completely innocent but I took the "wrong" way.

Instead of going to buy wine and drowning the emotions out, I went to the gym and did a fast paced aerobic class that was much better for mind and body.

41, isn't "a dry drunk" another description for an alcoholic who hasn't had a drink today? One of AA's steps is "one day at a time". I could be wrong, maybe someone can put us right?
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • I want to know if just because I'm sober am I dealing with the root cause, because if I was around people drinking I know I would too. I would like to drink, I am giving up because I know it messes my life up, but I still like the effect, just because I'm sober doesn't mean I hate alcohol, in fact I feel that I am sober just because I haven't been out to a pub or club for ages, I can ignore the booze in the house, so that's an improvement.

Tesco Credit Card £250 £25 DD 0% for next 10 months.

Barclaycard Initial £241.45 0% for next 7 mths.

Not an AF for me last night, succumbed to the regular Tuesday night bottle. Today is another day.

I know we all want to meet our targets but if you're a cutter down and you and DH want to plan in a drink for a Tuesday 'date night' (hate that expression) then that's fine, don't feel bad about it.

That's my understanding of a 'dry drunk' too satchmo. This thread has always managed to cater for a broad church in terms of relationships with alcohol. 41, you've always suggested that you want to give up completely. That may be because you're an alcoholic (not that I can give a qualified judgement, who can?) or just because you don't trust yourself to have some planned drinking nights and then get back on the wagon. I can see why you want to analyse it. I've decided I was a 'lifestyle' drinker who'd just got into bad habits (when did offering a glass of wine replace a cup of tea as the social norm for many of us??). You've been asking yourself the questions and come up with 'dry drunk' as to where you are now. Maybe you'll always be there, maybe you'll be able to have the odd social drink in time. I'd say that after the issues with your uncle recently and other stuff in your life then probably 'one day at a time' is your best bet for now. Just park the 'dry drunk' problem and enjoy your successes.:T:A

I did have my planned drinks today and enjoyed it. Back on the wagon tomorrow. :)

1AF for me (7/11 AF yay my first smilie)

Last night I realised that it was easier not to drink than to have a drink and then stop....mmm...this needs some thought.

Hi all, 20 AFDs for me please :)

I'm going to be rather self-indulgent and announce that it is my birthday today lol _party_

I'll be at work but nevermind lol. Not up to much, I don't really 'do' birthdays anymore, will just be nice to have a chilled evening this evening :)

Saying that, I have booked tickets to go to the Southbank Centre in October to listen to Grieg's piano concerto, and Holzt's The Planets. I have ALWAYS wanted to hear Grieg's piano concerto played live, ever since I was a teenager, so this could be classed as a belated birthday treat :)

Happy Thursday everyone - almost the weekend so that's worth celebrating :D
