Salutory tale stupotstu. I think we've probably all been in similar cringeworthy situations. I know I certainly have.:o

Me three! However on a positive I do seemed to have mellowed with age, thankfully. :o

Hope you have a great holiday stupotstu

7 AF please Shaggy..was tempted to swing in by shop on way home to pick up a bottle, but kept trucking on home and had a cup of tea and homemade banana and walnut loaf instead. :A

Four weeks sober, I am hoping that I won't rest on my laurels as I've been sober a lot longer than this and then drank again, so I'm not smug and not taking everything for granted. Thanks to you all, without you I would be so alone, going out of my mind with angst and carrying on the self-destruction I am used to as a coping mechanism. I love you all very much xxx

Wow, that's great 41 - good for you.

I've read back through the thread and it's great to see everyonedoing so well.

I'm struggling to be honest - I've slipped back into drinking every night - not a huge amount but too much if I count the units. January was fine but we have a lot if people visit us on holiday do there's a bit of a party atmosphere every weekend which spills into the week and I'm lost.

I've been posting on this thread (in various incarnations) for years and I am seriously fed up of constantly questioning my relationship with alcohol. I need to really get on board and commit properly and for that I have to do a bit of deep thinking and soul searching.

Thanks tor listening to me ramble

No problem gien, we all of us have social times and it's too easy to let the days/units creep up. As someone used to remind us on the thread 'constant vigilance'.

Funnily enough, like imagnu I have a cupboard full of drinks but only ever miss wine. That's what convinces me it's just a bad habit that I can get the better of.

Back on wagon tonight, didn't miss it at all.

    5 AFDs please Shaggy.

no wine bottles in the recycling box again :j.
funnily enough there are other drinks in the cupboard but I have not been tempted by them. Its wine bells I that I hear, not alcohol bells

I used to think I had "beer bells" just because I didn't want to drink all the Cointreau and weird other spirits that we had in the house and never touched.

However, if you suggested to me that I should drink alcohol free beer I wouldn't have wanted that. When I had beer bells, AF beer would not have hit the mark at all.
Thus for me it was about the alcohol. Though I didn't know it.....

  • Morning everyone,

    It's Friday :D

Had a great birthday and although I drank last night I didn't wake up with a hangover but I'm rather tired, which I think is as a result of the wine.

Hope everyone has a good day today x

4AF and beginning to feel so much better :j

Swapped to caffeine free from lunch time and slept well last night - positively bounced out of bed this morning. Last night I went to the local shop to buy a bottle of wine as a leaving present and came out with a bottle of wine and......a jar of horlicks (I was tempted though).

Tonight was planned to be a glass of wine night but I'm feeling so good right I don't want to spoil the good work and feel rubbish. I also have a very social weekend so challenge awaits.

    Have a good day everybody.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
