Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who is baffled by those word ornaments! I saw one the other week that said "Skint". I have no idea why anyone would buy that or where in a house it would go! It was in dunelm so I dont think it was a joke one?!

I gave my ex a bar of soap that said 'A-rse' on one side and 'Face' on the other. I thought that was a good, practical present.

Oh, ames, I am with you. It leaves me feeling adrift in banality.

I'd dearly love one which said "adrift in banality". :D (Love that phrase.)

Maybe it's a good one to stencil in the loo?

Over christmas I had the word Noel up, separate letters, had lots of fun changing the letters round to see if anyone noticed. Sad life really!!!

Maybe a beleaguered parent, so that they can simply point to it every time they're petitioned for more? :D

The item I can't understand are those decorated clay moneyboxes , costing about £20-£30, but that you have to smash to empty.

Surely if you're trying to save £100-£400, £20 would go quite some way towards your goal?

I think the point of ornaments is individual. My parents loved brass but I wouldnt have any.

They are a form of 'art' to people, some like pictures/photos, others like something more 3d/4d.

I see ornaments as extras to dust! However I have photo frames, the word home and like mrsd I'll have mr and mrs once married.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

Is that in case one day you wake up and forget where you are? I can see its uses. Perhaps a laminated sign stuck on your car saying "car" would help too, just in case one day you accidentally mistake it for the lawnmower?

Mind you, I've just realised that my cutlery all has "knife" "fork" and "spoon" on them (Had them for years and I still quite like them). Useful really too, just in case I have a mad moment and think to start spreading butter on my sandwiches with a fork, or try eating soup with a knife. They've got me out of many a close shave, I can tell you!
