Ames I too find these totally bewildering!

I know my family, friends, basics of my home layout etc. When I am beyond this point I sincerely doubt that there is anything out there that will truly help me let alone a cheap ornament :(

However my antipathy stretches to all ornaments....I just do not get their point at all....my memories are in my mind and when they finally leave there then are gone for good. :(

Is there one for the toilet that says "crapper"?

It would be the true descendant of those signs talking about sprinkles and tinkles.

    And equally tasteless.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Who decides what is tasteful and what is not? I think if it makes you happy then good for you, especially in these miserable times. Sometimes it's nice to pick up a few cheap bits from a shop to cheer yourself, and your house up. I have a friend who loves all that stuff, she barely has any money but likes to keep her house nice, it makes her happy and her home warm and inviting.

I think anyone prepared to comment should post a picture of their living room for us to dissect

Sorry for being a party pooper but just had to say :o

I suppose some people just find them decorative. Not very keen on them myself but it's personal choice. You could also say what's the point in any ornaments, or why do we have pictures up, or why get something with spots/stripes/flowers on instead of just plain? - because whoever bought it thinks it looks nice.

I have posted my sitting room on MSE before. :). I don't pretend for a second my taste is universal, (i have some very old and broken stuff that i think is beautiful but others would consider tat) but it suits me, just the same as the words suit other people.

However, we are allowed to say we do or not like things and why!

Personally I think the word thing for me is somehow equated with a sort of Internet thing where people have status of what they are doing and where they are.

Some are very lovely looking, I agree....nonetheless I do not like them! But I would never walk into some one's home and go....oh, I hate that!

They seem to be mostly verbs, so I think the toilet one would be "poo" or "wee"
Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear
  • MIL has got some porcelain ones in her kitchen that say "Cook" and "Eat". I find that very strange indeed, although I do admit that I have a welcome sign in the porch.

I wonder if I can buy a pretty set that say things like "Wash up", "Pick pants up off floor" etc and see if DH takes any notice of them.
  • Can I confess that I've always wanted to sneak into a house with these letters and words on display.........and re-arrange them all into obscenities. :o
