what exactly constitutes a driving licence for ID (its the PAPER AND THE CARD PART!!!),

The Society's requirement is to successfully identify the customer, and as the card part has a photograph, name, date of birth and address, this should be more than sufficient to do so. Whether the customer has 6 points for speeding, or can ride a motorcycle on a provisional entitlement is neither here nor there.

  • Twister84 - I completely agree with your comments - not sure if when you say you not been with RBS long that you ain't been in retail banking long either?! I found in Halifax it can be very much about sales (but like you point out we only sell to a customer need which really ends up making the customer better off anyway). I have even had the customer waiting for you and you only to be served, heck I even have a few old dears who pop in and only come to me for a bit gossip etc!!

I said whilst in the midsts of the DPA banter back on pages14/15/16/17 etc that I would check the procedures on 3rd party deposits in Halifax & BoS branches. Well I did and it clearly states to us that we can under no circumstances look for a roll number or sort code & account number if the 3rd party does not have these details. We can offer them the use of a phone (in a public area) to call the customer to obtain these details (but of course we cannot give them a phone number to call!!). It actually evens goes further and advises not to give a receipt unless we are given the details on a computer generated output (from us) or if the 3rd party can confirm the customers name.

Something new - any Halifax/BoS customer with a Cardcash or Easycash account and wishes to 'upgrade' to a full current account (and thus being able to use the counter etc in branches, have a Visa Debit not Electron, Overdraft, Cheque book) can now do so in branch AND we can move all the Direct Debits, Standing Orders, Bank Credits etc for you. Previously we could open a full current account but not transfer all the debits and credits as this service was reserved for customers transferring from another bank. Of course the full current account is subject to a credit check which will decide if your able to have the full current account.

I work for Halifax (a division of Bank of Scotland plc, owned by HBOS plc, owned by Lloyds Banking Group plc). Any comments or views are my personal comments and opinions and not those of my employer. Oh and I might (on the odd occasion) get something wrong, if I do then I do apologise in advance!!

Been with RBS, and therefore retail banking, for 6 months now, but was in retail for past 8 years.

About the old dears coming in just to gossip with you - I'm not quite there yet :p
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p

First of all, regarding these "Customer Service Reviews", that everyone seems to be have hatred towards, are not actually that bad where money can be made/saved.

So if so many customers hate these so called " Customer Service Reviews " why not take a step back and ask yourself why.

Might it be that they are really " Bank Selling Piches ", not really reviews at all? The banks need to try to be more honest and open about this activity that gets up so many customers noses.

Any customer can usually get a better deal elsewhere, so it isn't a win / win situation, it is only a win for the greedy banks.

Just my 2p on the situation.

    Just my view on reviews:-

The bank although trying to do business for itself is also trying to help the customer. Although you may be able to get a better deal elsewhere this would only apply if you where looking in the first place. For example you have £40k in a current account which you are keeping there until you need for some future renovations on your house. Your have a review which the bank offered you and they offer to open you an instant access savings account with 2% interest, you accept. Granted you may be able to get 3% at Bank x down the road but had the bank not prompted you then you would have continued to get Zilch. I mean really are you going to agree to something that is worst for you?? so they can't really sell you something if its not going to be beneficial??
  • Good point Willo65. A bank is a business and obviously will try to maximise profits etc. Some people seem to have an obsession about 'greedy' or 'evil' banks! Those that continually slag off banks, who work in other sectors will find that people cant stand the places that they work and will have bad stories about service etc.

Of course, I think that most of us know that these " Reviews " are not much about advising different accounts to customers, there ain't much to be made out of that, more about flogging over priced insurance etc.

again, would you really buy insurance if it wasn't cheaper than your current product? And if it is cheaper then it is saving you money?

Yes I would, I don't buy my insurance based solely on cost, I buy it on value for money and company reputation, I do not need any bank to tell me what is best for me simply because they get a big pay back from the insurer.

Would you buy insurance if you didn't need it? I know from past reviews that they try to flog me stuff I don't actually need.
