Great 'Work in a bank? What should we know' Hunt

The monthly charges they were on about were packaged accounts with insurance benefits0

I thought i would post on here that Royal Bank Of Scotland Group has added to their Code of Conduct about posting on internet sites that may have a detrimental effect on the groups affairs and comments that could have a detrimental effect on reputational risk.
As I am sure that they read these boards I though I would make it clear to my employers the it will not stop me helping people claiming their charges back across all charges sites. They are UNLAWFUL plain and simple.
It sickens me what we as a bank have done to people. I think that comment contravenes the Code of Conduct

Thought i'd alert people to this thread due to changes with direct debits. Through Halifax, but this may well be other banks too (if they do not do it already)
This is about when direct debits are applied for and the withdrawal of applying for the funds again0 -
Telegraph Money writer Myra Butterworth has announced Abbey are paying 8% in-credit interest on current account balances of £1 - £2,500 with effect from 2 July. Any insiders, here, know if this rate will automatically apply to existing current accounts titled Abbey provided not less than £1,000 per month is deposited? I note the article refers to the bank's "two accounts - the Preferred in Credit account and Preferred Overdraft account". I recall that terminology several years ago became the options for how to register the Abbey account, ie either receiving a moderate interest rate (currently 2.47% gross) by agreeing to deposit £1,000+ per month, or alternatively a lower overdraft rate.0

Crumbs! Just read this last page and it gave me a bit of a shock! People actually PAY monthly charges for their bank accounts - Hells Bells!
The wife and I have accounts with Smile for our "normal" banking needs, Intelligent Finance for our offset mortgage (and associated offset deposits and ISA accounts), Cahoot - now only used for internet buying/selling, ICICI for any cash, Nationwide - for large household stuff and holidays (wife's earnings go into this).
We do not pay any charges for any of these and that has been the case for decades. Have we missed something?
With a bit of tender loving care I am sure you will get over the shock. Keep taking the tablets.0 -
I work for Barclays... a couple of useful tit bits...
* If you're a student, your overdraft is always negotiable. It's usually best to ask customer services to put you through to the student team, and have your income and expenditure information to hand that demonstrates you need the overdraft (also reassure them you'll be able to pay it back in due course). They are authorised to let you borrow up to £1500 without referring it to anywhere else. Over that amount is determined by a separate department.
* If you have a Barclaysloan and you've missed a payment, you're actually better off missing several more. An option available to the advisor is to put the arrears onto the end of the loan. Providing you pay the rest of your instalments on time, they'll refund you any interest you've been charged on your arrears at the end of your loan period as well. They can do this for up to 12 payments missed, and the difference between missing one and missing three or four is negligible when it comes to your relationship with the bank.
* In Barclay's collections department, they are trained to try and secure payment as soon as possible, with the emphasis being on an immediate card payment. If this option is open to you, then you have the upper hand. The advisor is authorised to refund up to £250 a call and if you can promise you will pay the rest straight away, they will happily refund you charges for the sake of an immediate payment.
* If you make a complaint, ALWAYS ask for a complaints reference number. If you're told your account number acts as the reference number, you're being lied to. Barclays have a dedicated complaints system that always generates a specific code as a reference to the complaint, but only when they've entered the complaint into it, so get them to do it while you're on the line and make sure you take down that reference code.
I hope those little tips help0 -
Hi Spurious,
Useful info there! I am with barclays and have a graduate account, i have a few queries- can you help?
I opened the graduate account about 3 years ago, and the account is very well run, regular wages going in, plus bonuses etc and also 5k in savings account with barclays.
How long does the account stay as a Graduate account? does it revert to a standard barclays account?
Also, i applied for a graduate barclaycard about 4 months ago, was approved and recieved the card with a smell limit, then within a matter of days (i hadnt even used the card) i had a letter saying they were taking the barclaycard off me due to a "review of lending criteria" I checked my credit files and all is fine..
I applied for a career development loan as well about a month back and they refused this (was only 3k i wanted)
I am at a loss as to why they are being like this with me, i would think I am an ideal client, regular payments, savings account etc etc.
Do they have an internal score system? do you know how this works?
I feel that they are missing something, ie: the account needs a total review. It's as if they have put a block on me getting any additional products, which is frustrating!
Hope you can shed some light on this for me. Many thanks

Hi there, if I have a current acc or a mortgage, with a bank, and I get marketing mail, offering a personal loan or a credit card addressed to me as im a customer, and at the bottom it has a promotional code to quote to call, does this mean im pre-approved, or do the company lower their criteria for the promotion, or am I under the same criteria as a non customer,
Also do they only send this kind of marketing to what they believe are there good customers,
The reason is I have a low credit core at the moment and am trying to rebuild0 -
