What is your before school routine?

I was thinking about this this morning as we don't really have a routine in the morning and it made me think what others did.

My son gets up at 7am puts the t.v on, gives daddy a 15 minutes cuddly / story before he goes to work and then makes himself some cereal and gets 2 scotch pancakes and a banana and then after that he gets dress by then it's 8:10 and then brush our teeth then wait for nanny / grandad to pick us up at 8:30am.

Our morning is really calm and chilled and that's why it got me thinking as people always say it is crazy and stressful and ours obviously isn't what am i missing? he does his homework when he comes in from school before tv or play time.

You're not missing anything. If it works for you, what does it matter what other people do?

Do you work ? If not, thats why your mornings are calm and chilled.

I suspect the bits highlighted in red have a lot to do with it, plus only having one child makes it easier

Have to say are mornings are never calm. I have 3 kids to get out of the door. The older 1 does most herself, the middle one does some the youngst i do it all. Always a panic rush to get out. The oldest does help at times with the younger.

I usually get up around 6.45 and get myself ready before I get the boys up about 7.15 We then go downstairs for breakfast and I make/pack lunch boxes. The boys will then get themselves dressed about 7.45 whilst I get baby up, fed and dressed, then it's teeth time about 8.15 and make sure they have everything (bags, gloves etc) we leave around 8.30.

I usually wash up breakfast things and put a load in the washing machine before we leave too. I don't usually find the morning routine stressful but the boys do drive me insane sometimes with their arguing! :o

I get up between 6.30 and 7.30, wake the kids and go downstairs. I fill the kettle to the top and put it on while they dress. I make a jug full of porridge (big measuring jug, fits nicely in the microwave!) and serve that for them and myself. I then make up their flasks of soup and pack their lunches. After breakfast they will faff and procrastinate while I get dressed.
The second DH gets up, he turns on the tv. I hate tv in the morning!

  • Only 2 people in the house. An hour and a half to get ready. Then you get picked up.

I think that is a big difference to a lot of people's mornings and it sounds lovely! :D
