At that age, I loved Jilly Cooper. Riders, Rivals, Polo, The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous, Appassionata, Score! (There are more in this particular series but these are the best ones).
I'm showing my age, but I think these are timeless

I downloaded this to my kindle for my 15yr old yesterday.

she liked the sound of it.
Every girl dies - not every girl really lives.
Sixteen-year-old Decca Tenderstone feels captivated when she meets gorgeous & reckless Leo, who is arrogant, silent, beautiful, and shoots almost every one he meets.
Your everyday girl meets badboy lame story... hmm... with a twist...
They live in a dystopian future in Los Angeles where every sixteen-year-old is ranked on a scale from one to ten to determine their future. Outranks, who are considered a danger to society, are forced to attend the Monster Show, a brutal sacrificing ritual that is broadcasted worldwide on live TV, where rebellious teens are labelled Bad Kidz or Monsters and get to fight for their lives in deadly games.
The only way the jury still knows that you're still alive is to scream 'I Am Alive' as loud as you can every six hours. Lower your voice, and your dead.
While Decca and Leo can't stand each other, she will find out why she doesn't fit into any rank, and why her mother tried to kill her when she was seven.
Nothing will stand in her way as she has to make choices concerning love, life, staying alive, growing up, and finding out who she really is.0 -

Game of thrones et al are absolutely NOT recommended.. they are fabulous books but not at 14 these contain details of incest and selling 13 y/o to be 'married' and rape and all manners of horrible violence and suchlike. The books are less graphic than the series but I would not want my almost 16 y/o reading them.
Wheel of time books too are a bit heavy at that age but on a par with Lord of the Rings if she has read those. I read anything and lost the will to live at book 8.. God knows how they dragged such rubbish to a 14th book.. it isn't graphic but she may like them. I know many people who love this series and my OH recommends them to everyone.
I loathe Pratchett books, never found anything so dull, I'd rather read the phonebook!
Kathy Reichs teen stuff are great, I read those.
Twilight is nasty nasty stuff.. my girls told their dad off for buying them and made him aware of the abuse in the books lol.
Just have a look on The Book People and search by age, there are some fantastic sets of books on there.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I suppose it depends on her really as at that age I'd pretty much moved into 'adult' books. Terry Pratchett is great, especially if she does like something with a bit of humour. David Eddings - there is a great stand-alone book called The Redemption of Althalus which might be good if she wanted to try one before getting into one of the longer series. The Kristin Cashore books are quite good - and usually female protaganists if she prefers that.
The Game of Thrones books are good but there are some quite controversial issues in them so up to you whether you're comfortable with her reading that.0 -

A lot depends on how mature she is. At that age I was into horror and sci-fi (still am), but maybe things like:
Stephen King - Carrie/Firestarter (both have teenage girls as main characters)
David Eddings - pretty much everything (I was disappointed in the Dreamers series, but only really the ending)
Harry Harrison - Stainless Steel Rat (humorous sci-fi)
Douglas Adams - Hitchhikers Guide
Neil Gaiman - Sandman Series (Graphic Novel), American Gods
Iain Banks - Wasp Factory (and the Iain M Banks books for sci-fi lovers)0 -

I can see some folk thinking some of the content is mature, but I know a few friends who's kids (12 & 15) love them. I would say most high school kids could read them and enjoy them for the medieval type fantasy story they are.0 -
Douglas Adams- there's Hitchiker and Dirk Gently to choose from,
Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5 is a thought-provoking read,
P G Wodehouse is hilarious
