Tesco cancelled delivery

I would never order from Tescos after my neighbour waited in three days for her shopping and they didn't even have a valid reason. I use Asda occasionally to stock up on budget stuff if I'm planning to be in all day anyhow. But my Ocado man turned up on the dot of 8am yesterday carrying my cartons of de-icing salt as well as much needed comfort food, and warning me to take care if I decided to go out. Having been housebound for the last few days as 40 weeks pregnant, I could have hugged him!
The thing with Ocado is their whole business is online shopping whereas most of the supermarkets are just getting in on the act. Their delivery drivers are 100 times better than any others. You do get the occasional one who's not quite up to scratch - but you never see them again!0 -

Yes think you could be right there as everyone says well ocado makes it out on snow. When I worked for iceland the home delivery van was rarly off road either even in snow.
I think maybe if whole model is online then yes lost business whereas big boys have shops and lots make losses online.
I used to hate online shopping saying I prefer to go into store.
But really rate ocado/waitrose.

Exactly my point. The communication from Mr T's wasnt the best at all.Cancelling with a vague text saying reorder when weather improves in my area , then the website postcode checker stating my area is having normal deliveries that day.Unlike some of the other OP's posts stating that I only care about my chocolate biscuits being delivered to have with my coffee and questioning which planet I'm on , I fully understand people having to deliver items in this weather. My post was to highlight the poor communication from Tesco I felt they gave.
You're lucky you even got a text from them. A month or so ago, I placed an online order and they just didn't bother to show up. No phone call (to my mobile or landline) no email, nothing. Sat in all day waiting for it, too. Tried ringing them, only to hear a message that there was a problem so they couldn't take the call.
Last time I bother with them. A little common courtesy would have went a long way.0 -
Not scientific but from posts and hope it's right
Abel & Cole 1 no show (in the end)
ASDA 2 no shows 1 delivery
Ocado 4 deliveries
Sainsbury's 3 no shows 1 delivery
Tesco 3 no shows 2 deliveries
Ocado clear winner

Those who have had their orders cancelled (especially with Mr T), do they let you know/cancel before they take the money from your account?0

They should not take money from bank if they cancel order/delivery.
They omitted to tell me that they cancelled mine due Monday 3-5pm and when I checked bank no money taken, but order said delivered, so I asked for explanation as I am disabled and cannot walk around the store now. Mr T's CS rang back and I got sent £10 voucher in an email for use in next 3 months, but I still need to go and get my shopping. So Sainsbury's it is as they are a new store and they have shopping buggies that take larger people - just need to ring and reserve one.0 -
There has never been a day where our store has not sent the vans out, they will always try to make deliveries. However if an individual address is inaccessible (bear in mind these are 3.5 tonne vans, not 1 tonne cars) then the delivery will be failed and the customer will be notified. Payment is taken from the customer on the morning of the delivery and if it is cancelled then you will get your money back, however this takes a few days due to the banks etc.
Thankfully the last 2 winters here have been very mild with very little snow and I have not failed a delivery (due to the weather) since 2010. Even then I tried my best to get them out but some places are just impossible to get to, mainly rural. One was a farm located at the top of mile long road which had a slight incline, no other vehicles had travelled that road and there was no way the van was going up it. I stopped nearby and phoned the customer, he offered to drive down and collect it. So 10 minutes later appeared a Land Rover with massive chunky tyres and we loaded it all into the back and he thanked me and went off

I posted earlier in the thread about Sainsbury's cancelling my delivery (twice), but have to stress I'm actually pretty happy with the service we received from them. They were pretty good about letting us know about the cancellations, and they did waive the delivery charge. It took a couple of days but they got to us in the end.
Cancelled deliveries are completely understandable and acceptable; failure to communicate those cancellations is not.NSD May 1/150 -
I tried to add up all the cancelled deliveries as no shows and if they delivered later it was a delivery. However I did wonder whether to include the my neighbour/friend stuff and I think I decide not to - it was just a spur of the moment add up. It was interesting to me that Ocado didn't fail at all based on these.0

Stop moaning about not getting phone calls. We start our deliveries from 8am. Those customers will be contacted first. Everytime someone calls the call centre asking if delivery will happen we have to stop phoning customers deal with that enquiry checking where customer is, sometimes calling the driver phoning customer back while the customer due a 8am delivery still not been told! We deliver to over 300 Customer a day!
Yes we also had new customers doing first time orders or in countryside expecting us to make it. They didn't get it. Lesson learnt I hope.
I was witness to a serious accident of a delivery van crashing into 4 cars after losing control on a hill (and missing my delivery van in the process). Conditions weer not suitable so drivers are risking it trying to deliver food.
Maybe if we all supported or local shops before they closed down you lot wouldn't have a problem getting supplies to keep you going????
And if your roads doesn't get treated then do it yourself, rally your neighbours and clear it. It honestly takes very little time to do the patch in front of your house (and maybe a neighbour who disabled as well) so blaming the delivery driver for not making it up your Road is basically your and your neighbours fault.
I managed to deliver to most customers. One that I didn't was a private Road owned by everyone it was sheet ice not safe to walk on let alone carrying or driving shopping. So I refused it. Went back two days later to a load of abuse so I told the customer it was actually me who tried to get there and explained the situation. "I paid for you to deliver it" actually wrong on both times it was free delivery. She wasn't paying a damn thing.
I do not get paid enough. If I'm injured I can lose my job. I don't even get thanks from my managers, but I do get the list of complaints from customers which goes on my records.
Think about it before you moan. Online shopping is a luxury most people never had before and we all managed just fine before it came along.0
