its not interpretation at all, it is a basic fact that people die everyday either at work or travelling to work but nobody blames it on the work being open.

Bereavement brings all kinds of regrets - especially bereavement as a result of an accident.

'If only...' is a common reaction. That's very different from blame.

I hope - for their sakes - that the family are not suffering from those kinds of regrets.

I am sorry that you chose to ignore those human factors, in pursuit of your own agenda.

Dear JohnnyL there is a website called debateitgame.com, I think you are more suited there.

Dear moderators could we please lock this thread?

    Hi toshkininny

MSE doesn't have moderators, as such.

If you want to have a thread locked or removed, you have to report it - there is a button under each post which allows you to do this, if you choose.

If you just post a message on the thread, that probably won't be picked up.

Ive brought no agenda to this,

Yes, you have. You are obsessed with criticising teachers on this and on other threads.

You are NOT discussing. You are criticising, almost to the point of obsession.

You accept no view if it does not agree with yours. You have insisted that schools are shut because teachers can't or won't 'turn up'; on other threads you leap in to comment with little or no understanding of the school system.

You clearly DO have an agenda; it's just that, thus far, we are not party to it.

.... and as you have clearly stated in your post - and others - you feel you are arguing with people. That's not a discussion.

the only thing I am arguing about at this moment in time, is with people who are trying to drag the discussion away from what it is and back to something else to then accuse me of bagging teachers.

the remainder of my post is a discussion. Why does someone dying in the snow mean that schools (or anywhere else for that matter) should be shut. This is a discussion.

It's a shame that MSE doen't have an 'ignored by' stat in those figures underneath our username right up there with No. of Posts and times thanked.

Perhaps if annoying little pillocks realised no-one was reading their comments they'd go away ;)

What an excellent idea. Better still, the team should start coming down a little harder on the trolls (not referring to this thread but there seems to be an increasing amount of aggressive Newbies who are obviously trolling and they seem to be allowed to get away with it).

But to be fair, despite myself and others telling you that the decision to close schools is, in many cases down to school transport refusing to operate, you do still tend to heap the blame entirely on teachers. That is how it is coming across to me anyway. I think that is why people find it hard to believe that you do not have a huge issue with teachers per se.

As I said before in previous posts, my OH hates the school being closed, it causes huge problems for her students taking exams, she goes in at weekends and holidays to make up for time lost, uses the time off to work from home and always sets work for the kids whilst they are of (very rarely do the parents ensure it is done!). I am sure many other teachers do the same.

I just wish you could find something positive to say about the teachers out there who do work hard and don't deserve to be blamed and attacked for everything that you perceive to be wrong with the system (even though, sometimes, I do agree, the system does go wrong).

Could I add a question about a school opening in the snow.

My DD came home yesterday with a detention next week for wearing wellies to school in the snow. There's no way she could have worn her proper school shoes.

The majority of people 'according to her' were in wellies, trainers or uggs.

V annoyed but am I rightly annoyed? School rules are school shoes only.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

I think you are right to be angry. Of course schools need to have rules but they also need to be flexible in exceptional circumstances. The weather we have had the past week was certainly exceptional. I would be very angry indeed if my child had been given a detention for wearing appropriate footwear for the weather and would be requesting that the detention be cancelled.

I think you should speak to her head of year about this.
