schools opening when it has snowed!

Its a fair point, let me explain.
Teachers coaching my children, and teaching my children is fine. They are good at it and furthermore they have more life skills than my children. It is my personal belief that teachers with experience beyond just teaching and "the school" will make better teachers.
The contradiction that you see isnt there, because it is at this point where I draw the line. The school / teacher isnt there to interfere with HOW I bring my kids up and what choices I AS AN ADULT make regarding MY KIDS
this is where the line is crossed, and what I do not agree with. So to go back to your point, there is no contradiction there at all. I can see how you initially thought it was though.
That is fair enough. But as a teacher, I also agree with you that it is not my job to interfere with how parents bring up their children! (Unless of course there is abuse or a child protection issue, in which case it is not only my job but my responsibility to pass on my concerns). Not all teachers are nosy and try to get involved in parents' home lives - in fact, I don't know any who are. We have enough to do with our time.0 -
Sorry daisiegg I meant she HAD her school shoes with her. The detention was for wearing wellies to school. She didn't change at the school entrance as she said it was all wet, so changed in her form class.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0

No then in that case I would be contacting the school, that is mad to give her a detention for that.0 -
I would support the school. Because parents overruling schools is a lot of what's wrong these days. Yes, sometimes things are unfair. That's one of life's lessons.I am the Cat who walks alone0

lets establish what I am actually talking about here.
This part of the discussion is nothing about my views on teachers or schools. So if you want to discuss things with me, stop dragging it back to that because I have quite simply not mentioned that in these recent posts.
What I have actually said is the following.
The fact that a family has died travelling to school is not evidence (as some have suggested) that school should be shut. Why? Because you could use that logic EVERYDAY of the week with people dying going somewhere or doing something. I can not express how deplorable it is to bring this into a thread to make a point.
Now if you want to comment on my actual posts on what I am discussing now then feel free to, but dont avoid the valid point that I have made and then try to argue about something else from days ago.
I was referring to your claim not to have brought an agenda.
Once again you completely ignore my point. And post an irrelevant reply to my point.
Ignore...

Two things :
1. Schools not opening because of a bit of snow? What madness - if we had that in Poland (or indeed, in Germany, Finland, Austria, Slovenia, Sweden, etc) - schools would never open in winter!
2. The stuff about school shoes is frankly insane. Look at children throughout Europe - they wear shoes to school that are appropriate for the weather. Yes, they will normally change their shoes in school, or even not bother with shoes in the classroom - no-one cares. Why does Britain care so much? From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

because it is about perceived authority, its what they cling on to. A sense of importance in enforcing silly rules to obedient kids and feeling all big and clever about it.0 -

.
nope, in the context of what I was discussing at that point in time there was no agenda from me against teachers. It was a teacher free zone.
I was commenting solely on the safety of travelling in snowy conditions, and furthermore was clearly commenting on travelling to a variety of places. It wasnt even specific to schools let along mentioning teachers.0 -
"teachers should just stick to teaching because they are actually quite good at that. They are not life coaches or parenting advisors" (or words to that effect)
Increasingly government want them to do just that, teachers dont want to do it at all they are given no choice.
Last week my partner had to do risk assessments she has never been trained for, but she MUST do it because nobody else will and there is no money in the budget to pay for outside help. If she failed to do it and something happened she and the school would be held responsible, and failure of that kind is very serious for her career prospects. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0
