schools opening when it has snowed!

Round we go again.
It's NOT the conditions on the school site; it's the roads, the buses, infrastructure, the fact that people (staff and pupils) may have a long distance to travel to get to the school, ..
the things that other people travel through to get to work, so it is no excuse at all. So why cant the school open with the teachers that get there....some teachers will be missing, some pupils will be missing but plenty will be there (if they can be botherd to try)0 -
I'm getting a real d!jà vu feeling with johnnyl's posts.
The tone , references to a chemical plant and the word 'bobbins' give such an echo of Melly, who such a dogmatic and illogical teacher basher.
He clearly has spent all his time on here and not listened to any news, or read any papers. Otherwise, he'd know that many people, in all walks of life could not get to work.
EDIT. why is the e being replaced by an exclamation mark in my fifth word, I do not know. Have typed it twice.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

however that is my point, it is a judgement call not set in stone. Several people on here have pitched their argument around it being set in stone yet now it appears that it isnt. The whole claim was that it is non-optional.
But actually I am not 100% sure it is NOT non optional in the case of kids with statements that they have to have 1:1 ratio in many cases. But feel free to correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway, there is a steaming mug of tea and some hot buttered toast with my name on it so I am off:D0 -
No. I understood exactly what you were asking and have just called it stupid. Because it was stupid.
And you don't like it. Sorry but I can't sugar coat it. You were just being a bit thick.
The issues that have occurred over the past week have not just affected schools. They have affected businesses up and down the country and still continue to do so. Schools have their own issues with opening, just as some companies have their logistical problems in such conditions, some of which have cost thousands of pounds in operational losses.
and you still miss the point
It has affected schools DISPOROPORTIONATELY
as in SOME banks will suffer SOME hairdressers will struggle, some of the 5000chemical plants will suffer but nowhere will there be an example of 20% of 1 industry being shut. Only schools. Noone else will have that level of being shut, nobody.

Aahhh Melly. Now that really is a name that strikes fear when it comes to teacher bashing. Whatever happened to Melly. Actually, forget that, I don't want to know;)0 -

and again you miss the point
SOME people of all walks of life cant get to work
MORE TEACHERS dont. 20% of schools are shut, nowhere has this much shut. It is a really basic point to understand and yet you continue with this nonsense that I am saying thet everyone else is unaffected. I quite simply am not, and never have claimed that.0 -

You are still missing the point:
You are not comparing like with like.
Your arguments are far too naive.
You seem to have no understanding on the way a school is managed.
You certainly seem to have no understanding on how many businesses operate.
Do you have any idea how many private nurseries also shut over the past week. These are businesses too. Private schools have also shut - if they don't open, they don't get paid."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
DISPOROPORTIONATELY
.
and what's the difference between businesses and schools I wonder?
Oh yes; schools are full of children.
Businesses are staffed by adults who can make their own decisions. So if an adult chooses to try to walk to work through a blizzard, fine. If a (Primary) school allows the children to leave and leaves them to find their own way home...

I have no doubt that for some instances you will be 100% correct on that. What I am saying is that this isnt something that affects a massive proportion of the whole schooling sector. Do all those schools really HAVE to close? I very very much doubt it.0
