I guess I must have been brought up differently to other people. When I grew up,if I wrecked my home, my parents punished me and made good the damage I did quite promptly. Or it might be, that as a Gay man, I'm very fussy about appearances.

All becomes clear, if you will excuse the stereotyping.

!!!!!! if you have children and are trying to sell your house, please make an effort to remove any marks or scribbles your brats have made on them walls.

If you expect me to buy your house, please don't expect me to repair the damage that YOUR children have made, and which YOU can't be bothered to put right.

Rant over, Back to the house hunting

I would consider that a minor issue when buying a property. Compared to some issues I've come across.

Suggest you buy a new property.

Indeed! Dear mythical vendors who are holding off marketing their properties because you've painted all the bedrooms bright pink and the kids have written all over the walls: please don't be concerned, we will be glad to view and (if that is all that's wrong with it) give you a fair offer! :)

The wife probably spends all day on mumsnet, talking about how endearing her "Dear Children" are.

No baking bread or such tricks for these vendors, it's the kids she's dragging up that will add value, cos their so "special"

people are so blinkered these days.

  • I was also punished for such behaviour. However, children cannot be watched 24 hours of the day, and will get up to mischief behind their parents' backs. That's what children do. Even if they are punished, it'll probably happen again!

Maybe when you ring the EA you should ask if there are children living at the properties and eliminate them straight away? Just because the house has "clean walls" when you view it, doesn't mean it will when it comes to completion.

I have just bought an ex-council house, where there were 4 young boys living. Apart from where one in a top bunk had picked tiny bits of wallpaper, there was no "destruction" seen. In fact, the worst was the parent's previous shoddy decorating and the mould on the wall that they covered with boxes during the viewing.

Also, I don't think you have done yourself any favours in stereo-typing yourself because you're gay.

P.S. In case you think I'm biased, I have no children.

I had a hilarious viewing last week in a house with two children, where the kids did their best to sabotage the viewing. I actually found it really funny and it's not like we were short of time so it didn't bother me at all, but the parents were so embarrassed and the agent was fuming!

Hehe, sounds like an episode of "Outnumbered" :rotfl:

I bought a house and after a few months I noticed low down on the wall there was some child scribbles that I'd not noticed before. It made me laugh and came off easily with some warm water.

I think it's worse that they've decorated one of the bedrooms in Barbie pink .... that way it's the whole room, probably 3 coats, to get rid of the muck.... at least with scribbles you might be able to get away with painting just a bit.

Oh, I have felt that pain! Though tbh only smelly or dirty houses offend me as I intend to rip pretty much everything out anyway, just don't want to retch in the process.
