What makes you think that people who live in ex council properties would live in "in such a state"?

Getting a bit offensive now. Think you need to chill.

Have to also say that if you find a house hunting stressful because of the state of other peoples houses you're going to have a ball once you're in the middle of a chain, waiting for the "other side"

We had 'CELTIC' scratched into a wall in the livingroom. It had been newly painted over so we didn't notice it until we put a lamp beside it and turned the light on. :D

Apologies, I just wanted to pre-empt anyone accusing me of looking at the wrong sort of properties. I'm FTB so dont need to worry about chain behind me, and after some early frustations I am now only looking at chain free properties.

Indeed, what is wrong with people who live in council houses or ex-council houses?

We don't want that sort of attitude here, 'taint British!

I don't know about that, there's a long history of British eccentricity, bordering on lunacy.

Maybe they are all the "middle class" people with mucky homes!

OP - Apology accepted. I remember how frustrating this is, the right house will come along but you really have to chill out for your own sanity. We've just sold our (immaculate) ex council house and it has taken months and there was no chain

Just remember - you're buying bricks and mortar. You're usually best gutting the place anyway and doing it to your liking

I think it's worse that they've decorated one of the bedrooms in Barbie pink .... that way it's the whole room, probably 3 coats, to get rid of the muck.... at least with scribbles you might be able to get away with painting just a bit.

When we looked round our first house the children's bedroom had been newly painted, possibly to cover up scribbes etc. It was only when we actually moved in that we realised they had only painted the bits that showed so there was a bunkbed sized area and wardrobe sized area in a completely different colour.
