Multiple births insurance.

My wife is nine weeks pregnant and we are getting increasingly worried that it is more than one for several reasons. (her stomach is growing very rapidly among others) We have read online about insurance against such things and I called various companies who all seem to have stopped offering this insurance on the first of January 2013. Does anyone know where I could take out such a policy or even if I could place a bet against it in a betting shop. Thank you

Didn't we have this question recently?

Edit: I've searched and found this thread, but I thought I remembered one more recently. Good luck with the pregnancy!

The recent one was the one where she wanted to be insured against getting pregnant, at all.

OP, I don't know who does it, but if you contact TAMBA https://www.tamba.org.uk/sslpage.aspx?pid=1012 they may know of an insurance company who still does it.

But TBH, having twins isn't that much more expensive than having a singleton, you don't need two of everthing, especially not in the early days, so if you've run out of time to insure (you need to have started a policy before any tests or scans), financially it really isn't the end of the world.

  • I already have twins (identical aged four) and even though the clothes and so on is not so much, I feel it will be a necessity to bring it a childminder for at least a few hours every day and my wife is sure it will be triplets which is completely impossible without a night nurse or au pair or some thing which is a huge drain on the finances

I also doubt that you would get insurance for it at 9 weeks for it even if you could find an insurer, as you could have had already had a scan and discover it was a multiple pregnancy.

If its any consolation, a big bump early is not definitely a multiple and is really really common if you have already had children particularly if you were big with them (as I imagine she was if she previously had twins).

I was HUGE by 9 weeks with my last child, and it was very very obvious by that point that I was pregnant. Everyone thought I was at least 6 months and if not that it must be twin, but it was just knackered stomach muscles after 2 previous pregnancies. By the end of the pregnancy I was a normal size for my stage but in the early stages I was well above average.

If you already have twins it's unlikely that you will get insurance, if so it will carry a huge premium, I remember when I had mine the premium would have been huge just because we had a family history.

In second pregnancies the bump is usually larger than a first, the muscles just don't have the elasticity they had before, especially if that first pregnancy was twins or a particularly large baby. I got big really early with my singleton, infact also around 9 weeks I was showing, and that was 6 years after having twins! I was so stressed at the thought of having more that I asked for an early scan at 10 weeks, and got it.

I already have twins (identical aged four)
In that case I doubt if anybody would touch as there is already proof of multiple births, or if they did then the cost would probably outweigh the benefits.

This is actually my fourth pregnancy. with all the others I was not showing until well after twelve weeks even with the twins and I would be happy to just insure against triplets as twins I could hopefully manage with. Is there any way of betting against it at william hill or something
Officially identical twins is not hereditary and therefore should not really increase my chances of having more twins. (They had TTTS so they are definitely identical)

Why has the OP switched from "my wife is pregnant and "her stomach" to "my fourth pregnancy "and "i was not showing"?
