Scottish Power Direct Debit Inflation - Check Yours!

Thanks for that advise but I was under the impression that my payments would be an even amount over the year, I take it not.

NOTE : Not SP specific, applies to all providers. Many people only give 13 or more week readings, when they are BOT reviewed the accounting software quite properly thinks oh heck I'd better increase this DD by 10-15%.

    - their accounting BOT's latitude for convenient mistakes
    - is moderated by regular inputs of factual meter readings

Assuming you are using about the same as last year, and (1) on the cheapest available plan for your usage and lifestyle with (2) payment by direct debit, and (3) an e-account, then you have approaching the cheapest you can get from any individual supplier. If in addition you (4) put readings in monthly instead of a sporadic 13 weeks you should never be price hiked wrongly, there would be no reason for the BOT to guess - it has an exact CAC÷12 curve with weather fluctuations already. The only reason for a price hike at your review date should be a unit price increase not a unit consumption increase.

  • i have been with scottish power for a few years now and up until now had no problems. I was in credit of approx £250 in sept/oct and after having my dd increased to £131 i am now £100 in debt to them. I phoned then in december to ask for someone to come out and check my meter as my monthly readings when entered online revealed i had used £217 worth of gas and electricity!!! so after being very careful over the last month and checking on a daily basis my usage (on the advice of the very stroppy man i spoke to at the beginning of january, after i called to say i thought my usage costs were very high compared to other years and if i could have someone to check my meter), my usage this month from the 2nd january till the 2nd february has resulted in £231 used, i use the heating on a low degree and freeze until i am desperate, this is usually abt 3pm and switched off at abt 8/9pm, add to this 3 evening showers for my hubby, son and myself, no gas oven just a gas hob. I am at my wits end as to what else we can do to keep the costs down especially when i speak to friends who say they have no problems like this, may i add that i am on a fixed rate which was just reset in october, HELP............!!!!

  • Thought Id pop in on this thread as I recently had a special "moment" with Scottich Power suddenly deciding theyd underestimated our bills and DESPITE reviewing our payments we owed them £190 from the last quarter. Suffice it to say leaving Scottish Power!

    David,

I have now emailed one of your colleagues and although he was unable to fix the problem he was able to email a dd forecast.

Anyway I accept this problem will never be fixed but cannot rate SP enough for their excellent service.

    The matter is now closed.

Did you ever give them any readings?
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • Hello wickedkitten.

It's much the same story as mine, the main difference being that mine was £1000 and so I cannot get another supplier without giving them (now) about £1500 because they have been adding 'late payment charges' and have made some questionable meter readings - I think largely on account of my not being willing any longer to give them a direct debit mandate (and have instead made a standing order).

I am, for them, an ideal customer because I cannot escape and they can keep on adding extras.

I have posted another thread on this site. It is called 'Scottish Power overcharged me £1300 and ,,,,,' ( I have forgotten the full title).

If we all trauled this site for long enough we might find out just how many people they have done this to, so if you find any other threads of a similar nature why not post their titles for all to see?
