either take it to someone with the correct equipment or do it yourself here if you have the cable

Can anyone tell me if there is a free way to unlock the Samsung D600 that DD no 1 is getting for Christmas?

I've had a look at this link but it seems though I may have to buy the cable.

Thanks. Does direct unlock mean it can only be done in a shop? Reason for asking is that I have seen a website that offer unlocking it online for 4 pounds.

looks like it should work if you have the correct cable, but there is always a risk with cracked s/w

OK, I get the bit about not being able to unlock the phone by code, but just wanted to check, I went to an independent shop with my motorola V3 locked to tesco mobile and the guy said he couldnt unlock it and that tesco mobiles were very difficult to unlock. Is this true? Any tips from anyone?
