Few people are considered incapable of "educating" a pre school child, the same cannot be said of a school age child.
Most parents have a level of education of at least the average primary school leaver. Learning doesn't have to be like school trying reading about autonomous learning or try listening to Ken Robinson on Youtube he's inspirational.

Fortunately us home edders are a healthy bunch so I haven't had the need for a Dr let alone emergency Dr.

Show me the epidemiological statistics that prove that home-educated children are healthier than those who attend school, please.

Does he teach grammar and punctuation?

I hate to resort to a cheap dig, but please tell me you're not the one educating your children.

I wouldn't want the average primary school leaver educating my child.

Going to school does not preclude autonomous learning. It doesn't have to be an either/or situation.

Those things on a forum aren't overwhelmingly alarming. What is worrying in many environments can be attitude. Many adults have a similar level attitude and maturity to that of primary school leavers.

Hell, I've been to university and I still wouldn't dream of thinking I could educate my child :D

Whatever their age children can learn an awful lot from each other. You should know that.

I didn't say they were mutually exclusive, but if you home educate there's more time for autonomous learning.
