Unlimited Mobile Internet Needed

I have recently moved onto a narrowboat and am trying to work out the best way to get internet.

I am a pretty heavy user that works from home, therefore I would need something with an unlimited data package. Obviously though a phoneline broadband and/or cable package would not be possible.

There is a BT Openzone WiFi connection at my mooring but it is £14.99 a month and the connection seems a bit sporadic.

I would quite like to connect a number of devices (MiFi/Router?).

So should I pay for BT Openzone or is there a real unlimited mobile broadband service?

Many thanks for any help and advice you can give! :j

    Edit - wrong page, sorry
  • One solution I have found is to get "The One Plan" contract on Three and tether to my other devices.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I moved house recently ans am awaiting broadband to be connected at the end of the month. In the meantime I'm tethering my iPhone on the One Plan and must say its been fantastic.

Speeds are in the region of 5-10Mb download and 1.5-3Mb upload. The connection has been rock solid and no issues with any sort of throttling.

As long as you can get a decent 3G signal, then I would definitely recommend Three.

Thanks, that's great news. Speed isn't much of a problem, just limits as I will be using it for long periods of time. Now to decide on a phone I want with the contract :j
  • Honestly, I didn;t know about the Three service but 5-10mb download sounds superb since my £15-25/month HOME contract with sky advertises at 20mb and gets around 1-1.2mb MAX. In this case, 3g is even cheaper than home broadband.. and I've found sky to be much better with speeds than Virgin (especially considering they lower speeds after you have downloaded a certain amount).
  • You can also go for a sim-only One Plan from Three which is £25 a month.

You might not even need to buy a new phone, Android phones using software version 2.3 and above have the built in W-Fi hotspot feature.
    I am a moneysaver
  • Actually, there is a cheaper unlimited plan for £17.90, including tethering.

Do the Unlimited plans not throttle or not allow tethering?

The One Plan certainly doesn't throttle in my experience, and tethering is fine.
  • Would I be able to use such a own created hotspot with three laptops?
Am considering getting an Orange Mifi/T-Mobile pointer device but their biggest data plan is 5GB...
However I know 3 don't have such good coverage in my area as T-Mobile/Orange.
