  • After reading all the other threads I feel so stupid as I have also been fooled by this company. I never normally give my credit card details to anyone but the assured me no funds would be taken! Needless to say they took £990 but I didn't find this out until my statement arrived which was after the 14 day cancellation period had passed. I was also asked to sign an online contract, which I did (well type my name). Is this legally binding? Can I still contact my credit card company as I didn't authorise money to be taken? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes - you should contact the credit card company and report it as an unauthorised debit that you want refunded.

You should also report the matter to consumer@claimsregulation.gov.uk
  • I've just had these clowns on the phone for half an hour, but fortunately I smelled a rat and had a quick skim of this forum before I committed to anything.

Although I gave them the expiry date of my card, I never got to the point of giving out my credit card number. I also stipulated on the call that I did not want to proceed and that I was aware the call was being recorded and I wanted to be on record as saying that I didn't want to go any further.

I presume as I haven't given them my card details that I've had a narrow escape?
  • I have been contacted by the ifonics company, and will cost me £891 for 24 claims, spend over an hour on phone trying to convince me to give them my card details and that they were a government registered company, took me to there web site and went threw it and everything, you cant apparently make a bogus government web site (they said) My claims is worth over £30,000 apparently, WHAT EVER, they just wouldn't take no for an answer and continually tried to convince me other wise, Seems good at the time but once you start looking into it, the cracks start appearing and realization kicks in. I had to go to work so ended call, they continued to call me 5 times till 8 o clock (pm)
  • Upon contacting my credit card company to cancel my card and get a new one, they have just informed me that they refused 4 transactions from this company 2 of which originated in Liechtenstein (sorry about the spelling of that) and the first amount they tried taking wasn't even for the amount stated to me on the phone... STAY CLEAR PEOPLE, LUCKY I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH CLEARED FUNDS ON MY CARD,
  • I too have been called by Ifonics. I normally don't entertain cold callers but for some reason I allowed myself to be talked into proceeding with 8 claims. Despite stressing several times that I didn't want to pay anything upfront I subsequently checked with my credit card company and found I had nearly £800 'pre-authorised' on my card. I told my credit card company that this was not an authorised payment and so I have raised a dispute on the claim for money. In the meantime I called Ifonic's, and eventually got through to a Customer Services lady called Kerry who explained I could cancel by writing to Ifonics within the 14 days and get a refund. I subsequently sent a recorded delivery letter, which was signed for at 11am this morning, notifying Ifonic I no longer wanted to proceed and did not want anything charged to my credit card. Fingers crossed that will be the end of it. I have also emailed Ifonic and surprise surprise have not had a response.
  • You won't get a response from them via email. Cliff Stanford & co are too busy counting the money they "rip off" from people.

I haven't had a response to my email but neither has my credit card been debited any money (at least not yet) so I'm hoping my swift action of sending off a cancellation letter has had the required effect. I always feel the mark of a good company is how swiftly they handle their correspondence, whether that be by email or phone. Two emails on Friday and no response says it all!! Plus it took me 2 attempts to get through on the phone.
  • I had a series of claims with ifonic they charged me £1000 with up front fees, said they had a 98% success rate and after 7 months and 8 complaints later said there was going to be no compensation for me.
    Avoid like the plague:mad:

The In-Laws have just received a letter from the MoJ (Ministry of Justice) will post more info later when I actually get a look at the letter.

    -Edit/Update-

The letter was from the MoJ after Actionfraud had forwarded my complaint to them directly. It was just a letter stating that they were under investigation etc..

Seems the best thing to do is complain to the MoJ directly and not Actionfraud!
    What a load of dunderheids!

The good news is that when I google ifonic, even using an inprivate browsing window, this thread comes up first in the listings.

I just wish people would do a quick search when these scammers call.
