My OH brought me a cup of tea in bed last year before he went to work and the conversation went like this.

    Him "How are you"

    Me "Feeling older"

    Him "Why?"

    Me "It's my Birthday today"

    Him "Oh..... Are you sure"

Me "Yes, I have it on the same day every year"

The look on his face was a picture. It made me laugh all day at work. He remembered this year!

My son never remembers my birthday or Christmas, he's starting to remember moths day now due to his girlfriend but he has re tiled the shower for me, fitted new kitchen cupboards laid laminate flooring among many other things, even though this is all year round i couldn't ask for anything more.

.....Wow, if that had been my OH, he'd have been lucky to have lived to make it to this year!!! :p

I think it's just a day, he makes a cup of tea and brings it to me in bed every single day. I appreciate this a lot more than a card on one day, he thinks and cares about me every day, could I want more?

I only mentioned it in the morning as I knew he'd find out at some point in the day and it was such a funny conversation. We are still finishing comments to each other with "Are you sure...?"

My Mum forgot to sign the card she sent to OH this year (It must be my family that are crap at Birthdays) so we are going to send it to her unsigned for her birthday! I can see this one running for years.
  • From a boys point of view: must admit when i was younger I really couldnt have cared less about birthdays, my own included, I never sent cards and didnt care if I got any either. Or so I thought. I kinda worked out the 'point' of cards in my own time.

And tbh I think thats the best thing, as much as I now understand it is dissapointing, I wouldnt want to recieve a card from someone who had just sent it because they felt obliged to by social pressure. I now send cards and small pressies to my family/brothers (and usually get nothing in return) but thats fine because I now understand that im doing it because I want to and me moaning them into reciprocating would get nowhere.

Anyways Happy Birthday, and rest assured, one day he will show his appreciation for all you undoubtedly do for him. I used to go for months without even a phone call to my parents, now I treasure every meeting with them. How things change...

I thought that this was the only reason boys got steady girlfirends/a wife! They really dont place any importance on things like cards or presents. I always say it would be really money saving to let men organise events like weddings and christmas etc. The only thing that seems important is that the booze doesnt run out!

I agree that doing things all year round are far more important than cards and things, but I just think it's nice that the people you love remember things about you (likes/dislikes/when your birthday is!!). I don't expect much and would be happy with no card, but a "Happy Birthday" without prompting is in no way too much to ask for?

PMSL about him asking if you were sure though!!!
