I've read the thread, though most of you seem to be at the VLS 60-80 end of the spectrum. If you were aiming for low risk and a 4 or 10 year term, would you go for VLS 20 or 40 (or both?), bearing in mind markets and gilt/bond prices both seem to be at a high.

Bonds are considered lower risk than Equities because the potential to gain more is lower than one with higher equities and bonds are fixed whereas equities have growth.

I would only consider having one because of the £2 p/m platform fee. Some say bonds are in a 'bubble' some say they have a few years to go. Who knows....

If you want to invest, I see nothing wrong with the 20 or 40 to keep investments ticking over.

Most people seem to be wary of bonds given all the reports regarding bond bubbles and I suspect thats why the VLS 20/40 are less popular but it could be that a lot of people in this thread are in their 20/30s and the IIRC general rule is for people to go for VLS 100-age.

I've still not made any decision what I'm going to do - typical indecision for me based partly on lack of understanding.

    £5760 gone into Cash ISA.

    Remaining Balance for S&S: 5760

Time to look for side funds to compliment VLS 80 :D
I've already put my entire allowance into the VLS 80% - and already regret it...

If you are regretting an investment in an 80% equity based fund based upon price movement during two working days, perhaps the market is not for you!

Why? Markets are experiencing some of the long expected pull back. I invested in VLS100 at the absolute peak of it's recent price but I'm not losing sleep over it at all. This investment has at least 10 years to run and that's 10 years of juicy dividends.

    what are you regretting????????

as an absolute beginner at investing.........VLS seems to be the most simple of funds...........put your money in and sit back

I'm not saying that I'm expecting loads of money back............but I'm sure it will do better in the long term than in a savings account

I know people have already responded, but re-read what you wrote the other day:
Just wondering if for someone in their twenties with a view to invest for 15+ years, would you recommend the 80% equity or the 100% equity? I already have a bit in the 80% equity so was tempted to top that up, but not sure if I should switch to 100%

Now close your eyes and repeat to yourself: Fifteen years.... fifteen years... fifteen years....
