MSE News: HMV administration Q&A: gift card, refund and job rights

It's only instore gift vouchers, e-voucher and ewallet credit are still not being accepted!
The website is switched off which increases the challenge - is that the only reason and do we know if there are plans to enable people to spend their e-vouchers/e-wallet balance? I would think it is the same issue as gift cards/vouchers (even though it is more difficult if the website remains offline)?
I suspect that their reversal has a lot to do with protecting the reputation of HMV so that they can still sell it, as there was a lot of negative comments online about them not accepting them, particularly as they were still selling them on the day they went into administration! That said, whatever the reason, it is welcome (and will be more welcome if I can spend my e-wallet balance!!).

Hi All,
Am keeping my eye on this site and the forum but I have the following 2 queries.
1) I have £20 in my eVouchers account (usually used to spend online). Anyone know if I can now spend this instore as the website is still down?
2) I ordered tickets (through Ticketmaster) for the Courteeners. As part of the deal, you could pay extra for a signed copy of their new album (which would be fulfilled by HMV!). I've received my tickets, but where I'm supposed to receive an email anyday from HMV to arrange delivery etc, I've received nothing. Do I approach Ticketmaster, HMV, or my credit card company?!
Thanks MSEr's for any light you can shed on this sorry state.0 -

Any idea if HMV were accepting them before the administration?
Yes, as long as they have no expiry date there wouldn't be a problem.
Waterstones and HMV separated a while ago, which is why Waterstones won't be accepting them.0 -
I read somewhere online that Waterstones had been accepting the vouchers if it stated Waterstones on them (not the new HMV vouchers/gift cards).

Posted on Deloitte UK Facebook page by Deloitte's just now:hmv.co.uk is currently suspended so there isn’t a facility in place to accept e-vouchers. However, we are currently looking to activate this site again and if this becomes possible we anticipate being able to accept e-vouchers

I had ordered some CDs online just after New Year. Some have arrived but others have not. I can't access the website which is down and I have tried to contact the Administrators to find out if they will be honouring the order which has been paid in full but I have had no response.
If the Administrator has decided to accept gift cards does this mean that I will receive my outstanding order? I can't see any difference between someone who has paid for a gift card and someone who has paid for goods they haven't got yet. Is the Administrator allowed to protect the rights of one group of creditors at the cost of another group?0 -
The current guidelines in HMV for returning items are as follows:
If items were bought after 15th January 2013 (i.e. after HMV went into administration) items can be exchanged if unwanted, if faulty then customers can get a refund.
If items were bought before the 15th January 2013, however, they can't be exchanged, even if they are faulty. The current advice from staff is to either contact the manufacturer for a fault, or in the case of purchasing on a credit card and being more than £100 contact your credit card company.
Also it should be noted that even if the company hadn't been in administration, unwanted items from Christmas couldn't have been returned now anyway, being that the return period ended on the 13th January.
This information is available to view inside HMV stores, usually at the front desk (or it was at my local store). My local shop was also accepting some third party vouchers again today, although not love2shop vouchers.0 -

How did you pay for them items? If it is debit/credit card they don't charge it until the items are dispatched so there should never be a problem unless the item gets lost in the post.0 -
Thanks Helix. I paid by credit card so I will wait for my statement and check it when it comes in. It never occurred to me they hadn't taken payment but that comes as good news and I can now get my CDs elsewhere.0
