Bit late with the news Helen see: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4386641
" The service can also reduce costs for calling mobiles and 08 numbers in the UK."
How does it cut cost of calls to mobiles ? no suggestion of that by BT.0 -
BT have stolen a march on Virgin Media who should be launching a similar product shortly http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/9656107/New-app-slashes-international-mobile-costs-by-routing-calls-through-Virgin-landline.html
T Plus have been offering a similar service for some time now.0 -
Unless I'm missing something here haven't the company that can't be named in any other thread but the designated one had a very similar app out for over a year? Could be wrong as i haven't used it but it's called Free Call?
Edit: sorry, just seen utilitybroker's post.0 -
is this any use if you don't have a smart phone.0

So how long before we get posts that people used this app to save money on calls and instead have been hit with a huge roaming bill because they were on 3G not Wifi when overseas??0

It makes calls at the same price you would make a call from your BT line.
If this is cheaper than your mobile, you may save money.
If you have inclusive minutes that apply to the network you are calling, you may not.
It would be nice if the app also supported inbound calls.0 -

A very short time, I suspect
That would of course be an excellent approach if a local SIM with a decent data package is obtained, but I'm not sure what efforts BT would feel like making to recommend using foreign SIM cards0 -
The BT SmartTalk app will not work from a business line only a home line0

Just installed this App & gave it a try, seems to work very well.
It means I can make cheap calls home from abroad if I'm staying in a hotel with free Wifi (or if I can find a bar with similar).0
