Item ordered but not yet delivered - price reduced....

Options
Hi all - I'm sure someone must have asked this but I cant see anything specifically like my situation so apologies if this is an old chestnut.

However, if you could bear with me and give me the benefit of your wisdom it would be much appreciated...

I've ordered a chest of drawers from Laura Ashley 2wks ago for £400 and on an 8 week delivery time. Needless to say they haven't yet arrived.

On looking at other things, the missus has found that Laura Ashley have further reduced the item to £288!

Any chance that, as they haven't yet fulfilled my order, I would be entitled to the reduction in price?

(PS, yes I was happy to pay £400 but a further 28% off would be most welcome!)

You are not entitled to the difference in price, but you can ask. You can also cancel your current order and reorder at the new price.

Have you had Laura Ashley furniture before? The quality is not what it used to be. Given the budget you have available, I would cancel and go elsewhere.

    Will certainly ask! ;)

I have bought before and there is another item that we didnt buy as the price was quite high and this has come down by a similar amount so I'm thinking about using my powers of negotiation if they are initially unwilling to help....:D
  • Where I work we will happily sell items for the reduced price. But only if contacted about it so please ask them and see :)
(otherwise we genuinely don't know as there is no feature on our system to flag this up!)

Assuming the item is standard and not being made especially for you, then if they won't reduce the price you are entitled to order one at the new price and cancel the original under the DSRs (I'd do it that way round to make sure you get one, you wouldn't be happy if you cancelled then found that someone else had just ordered the last one before you got your order in).

I'm not sure we even know whether the order was placed 'at a distance'. ;)

But yes, if it was place online, then that is good advice.

I would ask for the item at reduced price.

If all fails cancel the order then reorder at the new price.

Yes, that's a good point, I made an assumption, and we all know how to divide the word assume :D. Obviously if it wasn't distance ordered then the OP is reliant on the goodwill of the retailer.

Thanks guys - I ordered online so I think (but stand to be corrected..!) that DSR does apply?

The t&cs state that I can return the original item within 7 days so I presume that is the DSR compliance.

Anyway, I shall point out to them that I can do this and it would still be cheaper for me to order another at the lower price whilst mentioning that I'd also like to increase my order!

Will call them later and post back to let you know how they respond.

If the T&Cs say exactly that then they are wrong ... you have 7 working days (day 1 is the working day AFTER delivery) to INFORM them that you wish to cancel and return the item - you don't have to RETURN the item within 7 days. :)

But yes, DSRs are applicable. And the cancellation rights also, provided it is not a personalised item.

Ring up and ask politely if they refuse the cancel the order.

Similar thing happened to me last week orderd a bookcase from Very, day after it was delivered price had come down £16 , quick phone call on the 0800 number and they gladly refunded the difference :)
