Three, Worrying Concern!

Options
Hi Guys,

I was about 16 and I was online looking at three phones, seen a nice one was only available on contract, I put my DOB in as 91 instead of 93 and got my phone delivered, when I turned 18 I just renewed as I didn't want to cause confusion/hassle closing and opening a contract up, bad idea.

What can happen now as I am in debt with the company, I am scared to tell anybody about it because I feel I could be in serious trouble. Is there a way to adjust this?

Cheers!

Ultimately you have fraudulently lied about your age to secure a contract/credit with Three. Surely some relatives were aware of this when you received your new handset?

If you are over 18 now you are liable for all debt. My advice would be to pay any outstanding debt off and close the account. If you have renewed your contract since turning 18 then there is little that can be done about it as your newest agreement was made at a time you were legally responsible.

I am not clued up on law but your quickest fix is to end the agreement made, pay out of your account and start up with a new network giving correct information allowing the network to make a fair choice when accepting or rejecting your application.
  • I just said I ultimately saved up for it, bad mess up on my part!

I am surprised you passed the credit check for a contract.

You would have needed some previous credit history, be resident at your address for a number of years and usually need to be on the electoral roll at that address.

As you are now 18 and defaulted on a contract, the usual procedure is to report as a late payment to a credit reference agency.

A bad move on your part, you may well find getting a contract or any other form of credit for the next six years difficult.

Not that I advocate doing this, but in fact it's some other person with a different DOB that defaulted...

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

If you keep on doing what's you've always done, you'll keep on being what you've always been...

No.. It's the op that has fraudulently obtained a contract then defaulted.
You can hardly claim it's someone else when 2 handsets have been received 2 years apart..

This is one where it's best not to rock the boat, bring it to their attention and the op will likely have a CIFAS marker placed on their credit report, and they don't want one of those..

It's worth saying that it was only a part of the mess that the OP got himself into during just 2-4 years: Where to turn next?

However, it's not impossible that as a result of Three's failures and couldn't-care-less attitude there is a separate credit file for the person with the same name and address, but a different DOB.
  • They would never be any chance that same name, same address, could be actually someone because I have lived at my address 16 years!?

CIFAS will make the connections so your real DoB will show the flag and the files merged. The last time I heard this happening was when the parents asserted the contract was invalid due to being taken out by a minor - but I don't see 3UK being at fault in any way.

If they were prepared to take you on trust, and you fraudulently made an incorrect declaration (and you won't have been the first!), have you checked your file yet to see what's there already?
