Correct me if I'm wrong but we do have bank workers who frequent this forum?
RBS specifically.
I simply thought information might be got from here whilst I was showering.
However, going by your reply, it was foolish to seek advice from MSE and people should really just call their bank straight away shouldn't they.
As such, I will expect others to do so, therefore I wont be posting the results of the phone call made.
After all, I'm just some 'random' and people shouldn't look here for that kind of info, should they?
That is correct however I could be a the cleaner for RBS for all you know.
Given the nature of your enquiry "I" believe you should have contacted your bank in the first instance, and giving the way you asked the question clearly gives me the impression you did not take the oppoertunity to do that.
Reading your other threads a S/O and is the least of your worries at moment (In a nice way).Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Calm down. The "random" referred to was the person responding with advice, not you.
Thank you but I'm actually perfectly calm, I'm just not in the mood to be patronised.
I asked a simple question which required a simple answer. If someone didn't know the answer, why bother replying with trite advice?
Also, I realise the original 'random' would have been the person responding.
My point is, if I supplied the information from the phone call as asked, then I myself would become the 'random'.
After all, I could be making it up and hadn't really phoned the bank. I'd just be some 'random' on the internet making an assertion, in a similar fashion as the 'random' stclair referred to earlier.
Anyway this is getting out of hand and it was never my intention for this to develop into a spatt, so I'm leaving it there.
Have a good day all.Herman - MP for all!

I do... Hence the comment that First Direct operate 24/7 telephone banking.
Overnight staff are fantastic and have a great range of knowledge on all banking matters. If they could not answer, then they would have arranged a callback from the correct department next day for you.
So why ponder/worry all night and then post on a forum. When by far the quickest answer was to pick up the phone and call the party concerned.
Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Its true that you should never depend on information given to you by a stranger on a forum. In the case of First Direct, they are open 24 hours, so it makes more sense to give them a ring whenever you have a problem, than ask some strangers on a forum.
Now if it was the weekend and the bank wasn't open until Monday, it would indeed make more sense to ask on a forum to see if you get the information you need for your research (to, eg, confirm that information is correct).
In your particular case, it probably took longer to turn on your PC, login to the forum and type your question than it would have done to just pick up the phone.0 -

Firstly just to clarify I did know the answer.
However I did not understand why you simply just did not call the bank to ask the question.
I know for me personally I would prefer to get an answer from the actual bank rather than some random person on a forum. From my 15 years of banking experience all banking procedures differ from bank to bank hence the reason why you should have just asked First Direct in the first instance.
From my own experience I have sent a payment to a closed Lloyds TSB account in the past and it was not automatically returned to me I had to chase it up with them.
Other posters have indicated the funds may automatically be returned to you. Thats great however as for my example just given its not always the case.
So in this case it would have been better to call the bank give them the circumstances then let them tell you what their policy would be.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
If the OP was wasting her time posting the question - the rest of you seem to have wasted significantly more time complaining about her post!Piglet
