I closed my First Direct accounts last week but forgot to cancel the monthly standing order from my RBS account to my FD account, it has been taken today.
Will it bounce back automatically or have I got a problem?

Really? Of course I've thought about it.
After getting very little sleep last night, I was still in bed when I posted. It popped into my mind when I woke up so I figured I'd just ask and maybe someone would have answered my question by the time I'd got showered.
Since no helpful advice has been given, I will call as soon as I go downstairs.
Edit: Apologies lolavix, I did not see your post when I started responding to stclair. Thanks. :beer:Herman - MP for all!

It will be returned. On your RBS statement you should see something like 'FP RETURN' with a code beginning 00. This is assuming the account is definitely closed. The payment would normally reject same day and the reject will show before the outbound payment on your statement.0

Well you should remember they are open 24/7 so rather than tossing and turning.
You could have called, and they would have given you the answer and allowed you a good night sleeps :rotfl:Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
Why are some posters so rude when they get an answer they do not like?
I would have thought OP might come back and update the response to his/her phone call."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

In a nutshell really two things could happen:
* Payments bounces back
* Stays in First Directs suspense account until its claimed

It wasn't that I did no' 'like' stclair's first answer. I found it patronising.
Apologies if that does not meet with your approval.Herman - MP for all!

Well it was 9am in the morning ring them ask the question they would have been better to advise than some random on a forum. You don't have to look presentable to call your bank.
How you now called them? What was their resolution to your concern?Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Correct me if I'm wrong but we do have bank workers who frequent this forum?
RBS specifically.
I simply thought information might be got from here whilst I was showering.
However, going by your reply, it was foolish to seek advice from MSE and people should really just call their bank straight away shouldn't they.
As such, I will expect others to do so, therefore I wont be posting the results of the phone call made.
After all, I'm just some 'random' and people shouldn't look here for that kind of info, should they?Herman - MP for all!
