I can tell you it wont support Sky as you will not have the username and password information required. Its built into the Sky hubs firmware.

Easy to extract though. A quick Google will tell you everything you need to do to get that info.

Sky manufacture their own router. I assume its an Amstrad.
I'm not sure whether the user/password can be extracted from the new one so easily, but https://www.skyuser.co.uk is the place to go for more info.
They were in the past Netgear or Sagem.

I currently use a tp link router with orange BB. the tp link has been far superior as it broadcasts the wifi much further then previous routers. it came with settings for different isp's, maybe it could handle sky. i'd really like to keep it if i switched to sky

I don't know that specific modem/router but you should be able to use it just a wifi access point and use the Sky box just as a modem/router. You need to ensure only one of the boxes (probably best to be the Sky box) is acting as the DHCP server.

The new Sky Hub is designed and built in-house. Previously Sagemcom and Netgear provided routers.

I had the same deal as a current Sky TV customer. The telephone line and BB will be activated on January 21st. Sky hub is on the way, and Sky will handle the transfer and get the MAC code from Plusnet directly. The whole process is smooth and efficient. Don't forget to switch through Topcashback or Quidco. I have £80 tracked on my Quidco account. You can pay the whole year line rental now, and it will save you another 50 quids. If the cashback is actually paid, then it will only cost me £14.50X12-£80-£50=£40 for the first year, which can't be a bad deal.

My understanding is that you can only pay line rental upfront if you order by phone, not online (for new customers anyhow). So losing £80 cashback for a £50 rental saving.

Thanks very much for all the helpful replies, think [STRIKE]I'll be [/STRIKE] I WON'T be changing to Sky then!

EDIT: Funnily enough, Sky phoned me today to ask if I was happy with my current package and if I wanted to make any changes to it. I'd been planning to get rid of Sports and Movies so asked for them to be cancelled due to the cost. The call centre operative totally ignored what I'd said and proceeded to try and sell me other products instead.

Because the caller had totally ignored me, I said I didn't want anything else, only to cancel the Sports/Movies. She refused to do it and said she couldn't transfer me to anyone who could help. I asked to speak to a supervisor, she refused and put the phone down on me.

I won't be getting broadband with them now if this is an example of their "customer service". If it wasn't for the fact that I enjoy watching Sky 1 and Sky Atlantic I would leave them altogether.

I don't blame you at all.

We switched everything to Sky as it worked out only slightly more per quarter than we pay already and we got more for our money.

I live in a rural area and my connection speed rarely gets about 1.5MPs.

I use my computer for online gaming and watching tv shows i miss during the week and this broadband is completely horrible, i've phoned several times as the connection is inconsistent at best, the router is now faulty and I'm having to fight for a replacement, i must add i have only been with Sky for approx 6 months.

I must stress the download speed is not the problem, the problem is the ping (the noise on the line) in some instances i have seen it reach almost 20 seconds of a delay, if you don't understand what 'ping' is, imagine trying to load a website and it doesn't begin to download until 20 seconds after you have clicked the link!

Onto the router: it's a Sagecom router that has been supplied, and in all honesty, i have never had a worse router to date, i moved from BT and had the HomeHub 2.0 which was rock solid in terms of build quality, feel and performance, having to restart at most once per month, providing constant speeds and a decent download rate for my connection. This Sagecom one is useless, it feels and looks cheap, i have to restart it a minimum of once per day and it takes what feels like forever to do it! When donloading it provides me not only with lower speeds to the HomeHub, but also it will drop to 0 MPS on a regular basis.

Customer Service: I would say on a whole, has been ok, they have played with my download settings in order to help but it hasn't work, i have had a few occasions whereby the representatives have been rude and sometime aggressive, only i didn't get the names there would be a formal complaint going in against them.

I have requested a new router on 3 occasions and have been refused, now that it is actually overheating i am hoping to get a new one.

I work in customer services and try and remain as calm as possible when calling others in the same position as i know that some people can just be asses.

Just my 2 pence, I personally think you have made the right decision. :T

Nothing wrong with the 2504n although the new SR101 seems a bit more stable.
If the previous poster is in a rural area they probably are not on Sky, but have the awful Sky Connect a rebadged BT product.
