  • Hi,

    I was a passenger from Faro to Gatwick on Saturday/Sunday and am seeking some sort of redress.

    Original flight was due to leave around 10.15AM on Sat 8th June - we arrived and checked in at 8ish to find it was delayed until 12.55 on Sat 8th. as it got closer to the time this then changed to 21.45PM with a departure time of around 22.15PM

    The service from Monarch was an absolute disgrace. They had no Monarch employees - just a telephone handset with a few numbers to call - moslty engaged! and finally a representative from the airport who had to deal with a lot of angry people who were left hours initially with absolutely no information as to what was happening with the flight. We were told eventually it was a technical problem and they had to hire a charter plane. This plane had to pick up people at Gatwick to come to Faro before returning with us. I have heard from a few passengers that the airline was aware of this from the morning. It was not confirmed that we were actually flying home until about 7 or 8pm that night when there was a struggle to confirm if the plane had left Gatwick. We found this out when another passenger recieved a text from a friend in London who was departing on the plane.

    We were provided food vouchers for Breakfast (6 euro) Lunch (15 euro) and Dinner (10 euro) - this was at a place where a cheese omlette was 10 euro. Oh - and also a phonecard that didn't work.

    In the end we had a 12 hour wait in the airport and further time at standstill on the final plane. This was bad enough when arriving at Gatwick at 1.30AM I realised the only way home from the airport was a £100 taxi into London as there were no buses or trains. (My prebooked train tickets for earlier that day cost about 24 quid all in) This mightn;t seem like a big deal - but at 24 and a tight budget £100 on a taxi might as well have been £1000.

    I want to seek some sort of compensation but according to Monarch onward travel is not their problem. As it was a 12 hour delay I should write them a complaint letter - but after reading above posts I doubt very much this will have any effect. From the looks of this I'll have to go through the motions till I can take them to court.

    I looked on their website and found an address to write to but I couldn't find the standard complaint form. Can anybody link me please? Any other advise?

    "Considering an appeal" :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    It's got to be a typo. The quote should have read "We're considering our appeal to passengers, which is none existent given we struggle to get to places on time and then refuse to pay out when we don't."

    Great to see the article in the DM, hopefully Monarch will start to see that their strategy of denying legitimate claims is ruining (what's left of) their reputation.

    I filed N1 claim, deemed to be served on 3 May. Monarch filed acknowledgement indicating to defend on 15 May. 28 days would have expired end May,but no defence received so far. Question is how long do i leave before i request judgement? Will be patient, but as a general rule, would 2 weeks do? I know some people on here have said judge accepted late defence...

    Firstly I would 'phone Court as Monarch filed their defence to my case to Court on the final day but 'forgot' to serve on me until a month later!

    I would go for judgment by default now, this second. You are fully entitled to. Ok, you may not get it immediately and without a fight but Monarch will have a lot of uncomfortable explaining to do and may just fold their hand.

    One thing you are guaranteed to get is their attention!

    Monarch appear to be continuing their "Dirty Tricks" campaign in putting obstacles in the way of the majority of claims. They are obviously playing the perecentage game which results in many claimants walking away and not persuing their claims. The real winners here are the Legal Team and Solicitors who are raking the money in because of Monarch stance. They will more than happy to continue in the current vein and will not discourage Monarch by advising them to settle,as this would result in a reducing of their income. I don't know how much it costs Monarch in legal fees every time the Legal team have to respond and the cost of a court case must be very high.We can only hope if enough cases goes against them they will throw in the towel.

    I fully agree with Bill that the legal team are the real winners here, they miust be coining it in. I would think everytime the answer a letter they would chage up to £100 a throw. Going to court would probably run into thousands. Whoever is making these decisions for the solicitors to continue finding different reason to deny compensation, is blinkered and probably does not fully appreciate the cost to Monarch in both monetry and goodwill terms.
