Ditto! Not too long to go. What date are you travelling and where do you stay?

We go on 29 April. No accommodation booked for the first part yet, I'll probably take a chance on Priceline nearer the time. For the last 5 days we'll be at Coronado Springs :j

Another lurker on a late New Years resolution to join in if that's OK - Will try to post something useful at some point!!!!

Just wanted to mention to Spiraling Down regarding the dogs - DAP (Adaptil) also have collars available which mean the happy hormones would surround her and hopefully calm her the whole time. These collars are really long even for big dogs so you can cut off the end and put it somewhere like her bed so the effects are increased there. Good luck!

:hello: welcome - great to see lots of new peeps popping in
Yep, I am here, just doing a bit of lurking and catching up.

For once I am not grumpy, I've just had a very sad couple of days, so I haven't posted anything. I had to go to the funeral of a good friend yesterday who died at the age of 47, a week before Christmas. It seems that he was misdiagnosed after a car accident a couple of years ago which eventually resulted in him having a massive heart attack.

I knew a week before the funeral that he had died and I had been fine with it. However, when I actually sat down in the church, it hit me, very hard. When I saw all the slides of him and his family on the ohp and realised that neither they, nor I were ever going to see him again, I couldn’t control myself and the waterworks started. I had gone to the church completely unprepared, without tissues or anything to keep my dignity intact, just the back of my hand, which after a short time wasn’t really enough.

Anyway, a moral I can take from this (albeit a bit too late)..

Don’t lose touch with good friends, as although with great friends you can always catch up the next time you see them as if you had never been apart, sometimes fate kicks in and you never get the opportunity.:(:(

    Ahh hugs ((((( sfsb )))))

Imsohappy, Mildred and Patty and to all others who read my post...thank you. Thanks to you 3 lovelies for especially replying:) so nice of you, my poor friend is so distraught, I know the baby is 10 months old and soon as he cries she picks him up, maybe a 3-5 second delay in picking him up, thats all. i know the baby sleeps on the bed with them.

I don't have kids but have seen my mother struggle with a younger sibling many yrs ago, no neighbour ever banged on the wall, I think that's wrong personally and classed as a nuisance by enviro health. it must be horrid to have such horrible neighbours!

Patty, do u think they are being reasonable asking my friend to move away from the adjoining wall with her lil baby? do u think it's reasonable for others to tell u where u should / shouldn't sleep in your own home?
Mildred, I'm thrilled to get your reply, nice to hear u talk of something else other than your usual doggy doo doo:D Im joking of course:)

Oh Nerfdad must be having his beers now that their baby is asleep...all I have to say is yay the baby slept :j so pleased for you but unhappy about the potty and big poo, I see baby wasn't bluffing...a naughty lil voice inside of me says 'wish nerfdad hadn't got the potty out, he would then be reporting his baby poo escapades and naughty me would be:rotfl: im bad i know:o:p

    hugs to you sfsb (((:))))

  • The dogs were always outside during the day and brought into the kitchen at night with the kitchen door open so they could come and go as they pleased. I have continued the night routine with the exception that I don't know what time he done this at, I brought one of the blankets from his house so they would still have familiar smells. I never had them outdoors all day before and know my lurcher doesn't like being cold, due to her low body fat she feels it so much more so couldn't do that to her.
I always used to call them into the room they slept in and gave them a dentastick when they were going to bed so started that again but don't think he ever done anything like that.
I got one of the DAP things today so hope that will help.

I phoned the girl who was working with the male and she's told me a few things to work with him that will work in the house, I'm also going to see if the old football pitch I used to take them to has been reopened. It is an enclosed space that was used by dog owners because it was a safe place to let them off lead as it was unused but was closed after so many owners failed to pick up their dogs mess  sometimes it was so disgusting in there that a few of us used to get shovels to clear it out so our dogs could play without getting covered but the council got fed up with it.
The lurcher has had her walk and the boxer has had his training so they're now both lying on the floor after both running around upstairs to see what's there. Maybe they'll have a better night, I have made sure they've both emptied themselves after dinner so will be locking the kitchen door tonight to see if that helps them. Other than sleeping in the kitchen with them I don't know what else I can do.

Edit - just looked at your link for the interactive toys, we have Kongs for each of them which they love and a kong that you put treats into and they have to move it to get them out so i'll have to remember those for training in the morning.
With the brick one do they have to move something? We have cups we use and put them out, hiding treats under one, most times the lurcher finds them quicker than the dozy boxer but he gets there in the end

Ah it might well be that your lurcher girl is cold at night? I have a lurcher & a greyhound myself and, as you say, they dont have much body fat so they do feel the cold. Hopefully she will feel better with the kitchen door shut.

Thats great that you have a DAP diffuser going, they can take a few weeks till they show any affect so fingers crossed. x

My dogs really appreciate a thick comfy bed, I bought some lovely memory foam ones from ebay as one of my dogs is old & arthritic. I guess they like a comfy bed with their long boney legs bless!

The other thing you could try is putting a fleecey house coat on her at night. They are comfier than a regular dog coat and often used for kennel dogs.

I like the Nina Ottosson toys as I can load them up and give one to each of my dogs at the same time lol. They come with a dvd that explains how to make them easy at first then more complicated as the dog progresses. If you search on youtube there are lots of videos showing how they work.

They usually have to push open a compartment with their paw or nose to get a treat, you can add little plastic bones that they need to remove to make the game harder. I have often been surprised that the dogs that I thought wouldnt get it end up being the best at it !

Good luck tonight! Fingers crossed once they get settled back into your routine things will be easier.
    MM x

Not sure what happened to the quote there. I blame the iPad. Or the wine.
