I don't think its actually even worth going into the shop to check out the hardware... Look at these price differences!

I would not dream of taking out on the store staff, and I actually said to him that I felt sorry for him. He then promptly said he didn't care as he was leaving next week to go to another job anyway.
He saw another side of me then as I said perhaps he ought to care for the customers if he wasn't thinking of himself to which he just shrugged. Sorry but that was like a red rag to a bull.

Just to point out that my comment was intended as a general reminder and was not aimed at any individuals posts :)

That sounds a bit unprofessional from that particular HMV employee, you always get some who will act like that, its a shame for the other staff who are trying to carry out their duties as usual in a professional manner with the threat of losing their jobs hanging over their heads.

Lets hope the administrators find a buyer for at least part of the business.

i bought a £35 gift card for someone one my credit card, for christmas which they havent spent, can i make a claim to my credit card company to get money back via them. thought i remember reading somewhere it has to over £100, anything under 100 you have to go to administrator and unlikely to get anything.
must be terrible for the staff, our HMV was always busy when i went, obviously wasnt enough to keep going.

I just read this - worth a try if you can ........... from an mse page

    Q. I bought gift vouchers on a debit card, on credit for less than £100, or Section 75 didn't work. Can I claim from my card firm?
There is a little-known promise called 'chargeback' that if you claim within 120 days from your card provider, Visa, Mastercard and American Express may give you your money back if something goes wrong.
Unlike Section 75, these are customer service promises, not a legal requirement, so there is no guarantee this will work, but it's worth a try.

Martin Lewis comments: "In past administrations, we've found suggesting people try a chargeback to be one of the most successful methods.
"In some ways because it's not a legal promise, there is more flexibility. The key here, though, is speed. You must do a chargeback within 120 days of making a purchase, so if you've got vouchers recently, go quickly."

More help on how to do this in our Chargeback guide.

Went to HMV this morning to spend my son's gift cards he had for Xmas. Was going to get Itunes or microsoft points, and was told gift cards would not be accepted. I was so cross. Someone spent money buying those for him and they wont be honoured. Ws given HMV customer service number but have had no joy getting through. I am livid.:mad::mad:

Didn't ppl see on the news before Xmas that HMV was in trouble??? I hope you get it sorted, didn't Game last year stop the giftscards then started accepting them after a deal to save them was reached? I don't think I would buy any giftcards now only perhaps M&S surely they would be safe.

Sorry to hear your son's experience...:eek:read below, it may help? Buying from a shop in administration
See Whatconsumer.co.uk/rights/retailer/goes/bust. Sorry, I am not allowed to post the link.. being a newbie!

    HTHS Good Luck!
  • I've said it once and I'll say it again. Gift cards should be banned.
Just give your loved ones cash with a message "Happy Christmas / Birthday. Here's £xx to spend at HMV or other"

I can't see the Bank of England going into administration, so your cash should be fairly safe.

I do agree and I didn't buy any this year. However, the 2 my son got from HMV, were from the people I work for, both OAP's who probably didn't hear the rumours about them like we all did by reading these posts. My son wont lose out, as if they are worthless he will get £20 from me. :A

The website shows no signs of them being in administration (yet) and anyone who lives in a cave will still be happily ordering from their website - paying with either cash or voucher (which as of last night/early today, it was still accepting, according to reports on HUKD). According to the Deloitte Facebook site:
HMV has confirmed its intention to appoint Deloitte as administrators but we have not yet been appointed. It is expected this will happen later today and we will provide further information at that stage.3 hours ago · Like

As Deloitte have (had) apparently not been appointed three hours ago, then HMV are currently not in administration yet, therefore how can they legitimately refuse to honour vouchers? When I say legitimately, I mean how can they refuse them in the light of being in administration (which places voucher holders lower down the pecking order than pretty much everyone), when they aren't yet in administration? I don't think it is right given people have paid for them.

I comment as someone who has quite a few e-vouchers left :(.
